If you missed yesterday’s Understanding the Times Conference, you missed a lineup of top-notch Bible prophecy teachers united on a single topic: the Rapture. Grace Church of Eden Prairie MN was packed, and reports of tens of thousands were tuned into the live stream.
Dr Robert Jeffress (First Baptist Church, Dallas) opened it up with his homespun humor and pleasant demeanor. From Ephesians 3, he helped us put the rapture into perspective, then provided solid rapture theology from 1 Thessalonians 4 and provided reasons why pre-tribulational rapture makes good sense. He closed by reminding us the God will pour out His wrath upon the earth soon, but those who have accepted Jesus as Savior will be spared.
Amir Tsarfati followed with The Prophetic Changes in the Middle East. In light of the Israeli elections, he warned that Israel may lose her respect and standing in the world if a liberal, globalist coalition gains power. Over the past 10 years, Israel gained strength on the world’s stage, and respect from her enemies. Many want to be her friend. But without strength, they may want to take what Israel has. The stage may be set even faster than we thought. As believers, we can look at the situation and see doom, or we can be excited that God is faithfully bringing about what has been prophesied for thousands of years! It is high time we awaken from sleep! The time is now. (Romans 13:11-14)
Special guest, Laurie Cardoza-Moore, gave an impassioned warning about rampantly growing Antisemitism and swiftly deteriorating American values in favor of Islamic doctrine in virtually all of the textbooks used in America today. It is absolutely unimaginable. Just as Nehemiah had to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, so we must “rebuild the walls” of our educational system, or risk losing our children and young people to the schemes of the enemy.
Jan Markell followed with a message regarding Satan’s Subtle Schemes: Silencing Eschatology. By and large, the church is not teaching eschatology (study of end times) for many reasons: some believe it is hard to understand, it may be offensive to people, it may scare church members, lunatics on the fringe make those who talk about end times appear as idiots. Though fewer and fewer do, the church must stay true to God’s Word, and must prepare God’s people for the Rapture.
My favorite session of the day was delivered by Pastor Jack Hibbs (Calvary Chapel, Chino Hills CA) as he took us through Colossians 3, 1 Thessalonians, John 14 and many other passages to illustrate why What You Believe about the Rapture Matters. He gave us 9 reasons why it matters, and encouraged us that Jesus is coming soon, so we should be excited as we keep looking for the Blessed Hope!
Finally, Pastor JD Farag (Calvary Chapel, Kaneohe HI) “brought it in for landing,” by giving us Hope for the Battle-Weary. This world is wearing us out, and Christian persecution will likely get worse. We are weary, but we need to hang on just a bit longer! Using Revelation 3:7-13, 2 Timothy 4:1-4 and 2 Peter 3:3-4, JD exhorted us to “have ears to hear” (as the church at Philadelphia did), be prepared and preach the Word, and don’t be dismayed by the mockers. Jesus…our Blessed Hope…is coming soon, so hang on just a bit longer!
It is always good to hear the Word of God being taught! With all the kooks and numb skulls out there teaching weird stuff, aren’t you glad God’s Word is reliable! I’m not big on most prophecy conferences since so many “experts”prefer to share their own theology rather than teach from Scripture. That is not the case with the annual Understanding the Times Conference, and I’m so glad there are men and women bold enough to stand firmly on God’s Word and teach it diligently!
Now, for some good news about the Good News: despite announcements prior to the conference that recordings would be available only via purchase of DVD’s, I found the conference available on YouTube! Thus, if you missed it, but want to catch it as you have time, here is the link:
