The Light of the World has Come…Jesus is Our Menorah!

At sundown tomorrow the final light of Hanukkah will be extinguished. Following eight days of joyous celebration, Hanukkah will be over, its lights will burn no longer (until next year), and life will return to normal.

While in Jerusalem for the great Feast of Tabernacles (Booths), Jesus declared to the crowds, “I am the Light of the World, he who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12) Shortly thereafter, He and His family celebrated Hanukkah (Feast of Lights or Feast of Dedication), and He declared His deity. (John 10:22-30)

If you are following, you know we’re in the midst of a year-end focus on “good news,” particularly the birth of Jesus, according to prophecy. But, understanding Jesus as the Light of the World is also good news! He promises we will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life! Oh, that we would walk in that Light!

The Hanukkah menorah may be extinguished, but Jesus is our menorah, and His light will never be put out!

I invite you to check back the next two days as we say good-bye to 2019 by focusing on the Good News! May it propel you into the new year!
