Trump and Netanyahu on the Outs?

At the time of this writing, rumblings are being heard, suggesting President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be on the outs. From unverified reports, here are some details:

  • President Trump made additional demands for an Iranian peace agreement.
  • Reportedly, some of the key terms of the agreement are Iran will open up the Strait of Hormuz, the US will draw back their blockade, Hezbollah will stop firing rockets and drones into northern Israel (a common occurrence, despite a supposed ceasefire), and Israel will halt plans to attack Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut (in essence, obeying the ceasefire that Hezbollah has ignored).
  • President Trump reported that talks with Iran were progressing rapidly.
  • Almost simultaneously, Iran announced they were walking away from negotiations.
  • Iran launched rockets at US military bases in the region.
  • Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel.

So much for the ceasefire.

Israel has stated clearly that they will absolutely not tolerate missiles and drones fired into northern Israel…and why should they? Would we (in the US) sit still while Canada or Mexico shot rockets into American cities? Of course not!

In an evening conversation (Israeli time) between Netanyahu and Trump yesterday, PM Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s position: if Hezbollah does not cease attacks on Israeli civilian populations, the IDF will strike major terrorist targets in Beirut.

Now comes the rub! Per Israeli journalist, Amit Segal, in a 6/1/2026 Telegram post:

According to reports, Trump was furious with Netanyahu in a phone call, saying he was ungrateful and that without him he [Netanyahu] would be in prison. He pressured him not to attack in Dahieh [a Beirut terrorist neighborhood].

I have not been able to confirm the reports via other sources, so let’s not get the cart before the horse. However, this would not be the first time President Trump has been infuriated with Netanyahu over differences of opinion regarding Israel’s will to protect themselves.

I suspect there is much more to the story than meets the eye. Indeed, there are likely cat and mouse games the general public will never be privy to during the on-again-off-again negotiations with Iran. So, here are some thoughts:

  • Biblically and legally, Israel has a right to their land and to defend themselves (just as every other nation on planet earth). Some may or may not agree (or like) that fact, but it is difficult to refute. Biblically, God promised the land to Israel in an EVERLASTING covenant. Legally, from the Balfour Declaration, to the San Remo Conference, to the United Nations, to Israel’s own declaration of independence (all with legal ramifications under international law), Israel is the legitimate and rightful owner.
  • I give President Trump enough credit to be confident he has an overall plan for peace in the Middle East. If anyone can negotiate a seemingly impossible path to peace, perhaps it would be President Trump. He is certainly the first president willing to call a spade a spade and take a stand prohibiting Iran from having a nuclear weapon. Likewise, it is also prudent to admit that the Iranian regime is an incredibly cunning negotiating machine, adept at “calling for peace” when they are near defeat, then using ceasefires, etc to build up military might to take on the next challenge. If you think they will actually ever live up to ANY peace agreement, I say look at past history and read Ezekiel 38!
  • A key distinction lies in whether or not Hezbollah should be included in negotiations with Iran. Trump appears to want to use Israel’s war with Hezbollah as a pawn in the high stakes chess match with the ayatollah and his wing nuts. All of Israel, meanwhile, sees Hezbollah as a well-armed terror proxy of Iran, hell bent on destroying Israel, and an existential threat. If you were PM Netanyahu, would you happily allow the US President to subject your country to further rocket fire from a group who bluntly state they want to wipe Israel off the map? Certainly not after your military has worked tirelessly to gain the upper hand.

Perhaps it is all a game. We’ll probably find out soon. But if the reports of Trump and Netanyahu being on the outs are true, things could get sticky for a while. President Trump will bluster that Netanyahu is preventing a deal from getting done, and Netanyahu will proclaim that Israel cannot afford to succumb to the whims of a terrorist group that wants them dead!

Where does that leave us? The same place every other conundrum does: In need of trusting the Lord 100%, 100% of the time! Friends, our Bibles tell us God is sovereign, sitting on the throne, and will forever be victorious! Do we serve the God of eternal victory, or do we give ourselves to fear?

Regardless of what a peace agreement might look like or whether or not Trump and Netanyahu are playing nicely in the sandbox, put your trust in God alone! He’s got this!
