See that No One Deceives You!

Welcome back sailors! We’re sailing the turbulent seas of current events in our series America, Israel and the Church. If you are new here, the series started a little more than a week ago and we are focusing on today’s chaotic world through the lens of Scripture. Yesterday, our focus was Lies, Deception and Delusion, and today’s discussion is a continuation. Welcome aboard!

What a contrast between Jesus, the Light of the world, and the devil, a liar and the father of lies! We see the outworking of each in our world today. In some places in the world, the bright Light is shining and people are coming to Christ in record numbers. On the other hand, the devil seems to have his hooks in our government, world leaders, the global elite, and even some church leaders who lie to us in attempts to deceive. But friends, when we walk with Jesus, we have fellowship with Him despite the lies!

This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

~1 John 1:5-7

But let’s take it a step further. Your assignment yesterday was to look up definitions of deception and delusion. What similarities and differences did you find? Loosely, deception seems to refer to one party deceiving another; whereas, delusion seems to be a false belief carried by one who may or may not have been deceived by another. We won’t knit-pick regarding definitions, as both are deep-seated in lying. For our purposes here, we’ll limit deception to that which someone else foists upon us, while delusion indicates our own deep belief in lies.

Thankfully, God’s Word speaks to both, so we will get some clarity! Let’s begin with Paul’s exhortation to the Ephesians:

See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light.

~Ephesians 5:6-8

Paul was teaching believers in Ephesus to be imitators of God (verse1), exhorting them to avoid such things as sexual immorality, impurity, greed, vulgar joking and idolatry (verses 3-5). With that context, he spoke the verses above (verses 6-8).

  • In a word, what was Paul warning them against? (verse 6)
  • Deception comes in empty words. What comes upon the sons of disobedience, as a result? (verse 6)
  • What is Paul’s instruction in verse 7?
  • According to verse 8, how are we to walk, and how does that happen?

Deception is nothing but empty words, and it is not coincidental that the exhortation follows warnings against immorality, impurity, greed and idolatry. Thinking back to our discussion of George Soros and the globalist agenda (here and here), are those things embedded in their desire to rule the world? Think about a few of the agenda items of the globalists:

  • Reducing population (abortion, euthanasia)
  • Socialist ideology (allow the elites to control everything)
  • Globalist names held up as sacrosanct (Bill Gates as vaccine czar)
  • Lawlessness

These, and dozens more globalist initiatives, are immoral, impure, greedy or idolatrous. God’s Word is clear: these are things of which deception is key. In trying to convince the population that these are good things, they spread lies and deception everywhere.

Here is a similar exhortation Paul made to the Colossian Christians:

See to it that there is no one who takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception in accordance with human tradition, in accordance with the elementary principles of the world, rather than in accordance with Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over every ruler and authority.

~Colossians 2:8-10

Again, he warns not to be taken captive by empty deception, in accordance to man’s fallible ideas rather than God’s! To apply it here in America, consider that our nation was founded on Christian principles…God’s ideas! Every time man thinks he has a better idea and tries to implement it, America is damaged. What do we see now? The terribly fallible idea that socialism is far better than capitalism. Interestingly, capitalism has roots in Biblical ideas such as responsibility and honor. The roots of socialism are power and greed by a few, over many. Do not be taken captive through philosophy and empty deception in accordance with human tradition and elementary principles of this world!

So, there are those who strive to deceive, but there are also those who are delusional. 2 Thessalonians 2 is a jam-packed chapter of Bible truth concerning the rise of the man of lawlessness (Antichrist), and how we should live as Christians in that time. Read the entire chapter (17 verses), but focus on verses 8-12.

  • Summarize the context of the chapter. (Who is writing to whom, and what is the subject matter of the chapter?)
  • Paul is warning the believers in Thessalonica about the rise of the man of lawlessness. According to verse 8, what will the Lord ultimately do to that man?
  • According to verses 9 and 10, what is that man of lawlessness coming with?
  • Verse 10 tells us that the deception of wickedness (from that lawless one) will be upon those who do “not accept the love of the truth so as to be saved.” Based on that, who is that will be deceived by wickedness?
  • Do you accept the love of the truth? That’s where salvation comes!

But now, the passage transcends deception into delusion. Read verses 11-12 carefully!

  • For what reason will God send a deluding influence?
  • What will happen to those who become delusional?

Fellow Bible students, those who do not accept the love of the truth will become delusional. In essence, they will buy into the deception of the enemy, will formulate their own thoughts about it (become delusional), and will cling to their delusion rather than be saved! Those who take pleasure in wickedness will be judged!

Think of the deceptive forces in our world…government leaders, globalists and even some church leaders! They are following the path the Bible says they will follow in the last days. Evil has always been in the world, but never so specifically aligned with end time Bible prophecy!

Romans 1 tells of a time when people will be given over to degrading passions and depraved minds. Wow…sounds like today! Now is a great time to read the entire chapter of Romans 1, but here is how the chapter ends:

28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper, 29 people having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

~Romans 1:28-32

Friends, that is where lies, deception and delusion takes us. Do you recognize it in our world today? We’re seeing those things clearly with our very own eyes. These are signs of the times that we must not ignore.

If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, I’ll be honest: you should be very concerned. You have no protection from the evil that is overtaking this world. Do you want to walk in the Light of Jesus Christ? I implore you: give your life to Him and He will give you peace in the midst of a messed up world. You will also spend eternity with Him, rather than with the evil one in the pit of hell. It’s the most important decision you will ever make. Click here to find out how.

Stay strong, believers! God always wins in the end. I’m glad I’m on His team…how about you!

Hey, stick around over the next few days. We have spent a lot of time in America, Israel and the Church focusing on America and the church. Tomorrow our ship begins a big wide turn that will center our attention on Israel and the Middle East! I’m ready for it…are you?
