Since violating the 11th Israeli-Gaza ceasefire a few days ago, Hamas has fired more than 320 rockets into Israel, making it one of the largest surges of violence in the 45+ day conflict. Thus, Israel has resumed targeting terrorist targets…and terrorist leaders themselves. On Thursday, 3 senior Hamas leaders were assassinated.
These particular leaders have been involved with Hamas since the 1990’s and have had a hand in some of the largest terrorist activities in Israel in the past several years. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Shin Bet and IDF for the excellent planning and execution of the assassination plan. Meanwhile, other Hamas officials seem stunned by how Israel managed to find their key leaders.
Israeli officials now warn that Hamas, out of desperation, could launch a wave of attacks. However, Israeli intelligence indicates that Hamas is down to approximately 25% of their arsenal. Believed to have started with 9,000-10,000 rockets, Hamas has launched about 4,000 and the IDF has destroyed an estimated 3,500, leaving somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500 rockets at the disposal of Hamas terrorists. With smuggling tunnels destroyed, Hamas’s supply chain is severely hampered. (Look for Iran to begin using a different proxy to wreck havoc!)
On another front, in an interview with Turkish media, Hamas political leader, Khaled Mashaal, accuses Israel of “replicating Hitler” and the Holocaust in Gaza. More and more, Hamas is turning away from Egypt, and more toward Turkey and Qatar to conduct ceasefire negotiations. Turkey and Qatar have both shown impartiality toward Israel, and thus more favorable to Hamas. Unfortunately, US Secretary of State has swallowed the bait hook, line, and sinker, and has engaged both Turkey and Qatar in efforts to restart truce negotiations. Israel rejects negotiations with both Turkey and Qatar. Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan accuses Israel of “systematic genocide” in Gaza.
Our government may fail Israel, but we must stand firm. Israel is not perfect. But Israel is the land God has chosen to call His own, and we are warned that those who bless Israel will be blessed, while those who curse Israel will be cursed. (Genesis 12:3). Stand on the side of blessing, my friends!
