“While we try to avoid Palestinian civilian deaths, Hamas wants Palestinian civilian deaths; the more the better, so they can give you telegenic fodder…This is the cruelest, most grotesque war that I’ve ever seen. Not only does Hamas target civilians, ours, and hide behind civilians, theirs, it actually wants to pile up as many civilian deaths as possible.” -Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
So, what is a life worth? Apparently not much in the Gaza Strip, as Hamas continues to use innocent civilians (including children) to shield their rockets…while Israel uses rockets to shield their citizens. The contrast is stark. While Israel continues to send aid into Gaza, build field hospitals to treat Palestinian wounded, and make thousands of phone calls to warn Gaza citizens that they should evacuate ahead of IDF’s house calls, Hamas continues to hide and fire rockets from schools, mosques, hospitals, and heavily populated civilian areas. They also warn Gaza citizens not to heed Israel’s warnings to flee.
The more dead bodies that accumulate, the more international pressure will be put on Israel…and the more blame will be placed on the Jewish nation.
Today there were more ceasefire negotiations in Cairo, Egypt. In return for a ceasefire agreement, Hamas is demanding the Israeli and Egyptian blockades be entirely lifted (enabling them to receive shipments of rockets and ammunition from Iran), and that all incarcerated prisoners arrested in the hunt for the murderers of three Israeli teens be released.
Hamas claims grievances with Israel. Here is Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement regarding those grievances:
“What we are seeing here with Hamas is another instance of Islamist extremism that has no resolvable grievance. Hamas is like ISIS, like al-Qaeda, like Hezbollah, like Boko Haram. Hamas builds terrorist tunnels under hospitals, mosques, and school. Hamas is committing a double war crime. They want more civilian casualties, whereas we want no civilian casualties…[Hamas] is holding the people of Gaza hostage. What grievance can we solve for Hamas? Their grievance is that we exist.”
Friends, what is going on in Gaza is pure evil. Hamas indeed holds Gaza citizens hostage, and even hopes to pile up casualties in hopes of getting international support to continue perpetrating terrorism. To get a very “inside” perspective of Hamas, I highly recommend The Furious Insignificance of Hamas, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. These posts were written by Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of Hamas founder, Sheikh Hassan Yousef. (You can read Mosab Hassan Yousef’s entire story of growing up in Hamas, being captured by Israeli soldiers, going undercover to work for Israel’s Shin Bet, and giving his life to Jesus in his book, Son of Hamas. Don’t start reading it unless you’ve got time to finish it!)
Be blessed, friends….and please be diligent to pray for innocent civilians on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border. May the Prince of Peace rule and reign where chaos reigns today.
