A Gift of Great Value

Hi friends! What is the most valuable thing you own? Could it be that God has given us gifts more valuable than any earthly possession? Many will say yes, but do our lives reflect what we hold most valuable? Spend a moment or two considering this:

"Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, 'I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan who read it'" (2 Kings 22:8). Recently I heard a story about an American Marine who bought a watch in Thailand for $300 back in 1973. Instead of wearing it, he decided it to lock in a vault. Fifty years later, he took the watch to sell at an auction, and discovered that the watch was now worth $700,000. He has an incredibly rare Rolex! He obviously knew nothing about the value of watches, and sat on this treasure for more than half of his life. How many Israelis going through the army have been handed a Hebrew Bible at their swearing-in ceremony, never realizing it is the greatest treasure God has ever given to our people. They go home and set it on a shelf to gather dust. Likewise, how many followers of Yeshua are simply unaware of the extraordinary value of God's word? Dear God, please let us discover (and in some cases rediscover) the incredible value of this book we call the Bible, and to hunger for it more than bread, to thirst for it more than water (Amos 8:11)! "Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God" (Rom 3:1-2). "And all the people gathered as one man at the square which was in front of the Water Gate, and they asked Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses which the LORD had given to Israel" (Neh 8:1).
