Friends, you don’t want to be standing on the tracks when the train comes barreling around the bend! There are ways to know a train is coming, and the wise person will get out of the way. When Jesus returns, we (believers) will be rescued from this sin-sick world. But to not know Jesus is to be blindsided by a train roaring down the tracks of our existence.
The Bible clearly says no one knows the day or the hour in which Christ will return. (Matthew 24:36, Matthew 25:13, Mark 13:32) Yet, in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6, the apostle Paul, writing to the believers in Thessaloniki, said there is no need for him to write of the times and seasons because the Lord comes like a thief in the night. He goes on to say we (believers) are not in darkness and the Lord’s coming will not take us by surprise! In essence, if we are ready for His return at any moment, we will not be surprised by it!
Furthermore, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees in Matthew 16:1-3, saying (in essence), “You hypocrites! You know how to discern the weather but you cannot discern the signs of the times.” He repeated the rebuke to His followers in Luke 12:54-56.
There are signs of the season in which Jesus will return! We don’t know the day or the hour, but Jesus actually rebuked those who, in the season of His first coming, totally missed the signs! Is it possible He gave us that warning in Scripture so we don’t miss Him when He comes for us? (The parable of foolish virgins warns us of that fate in Matthew 25:1-13.)
Indeed, the Bible is filled with signs that allow us to know His return is near. Not only is Israel back in the land (Ezekiel 36-37), which is a prerequisite, but lawlessness abounds (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12), godlessness is rampant (2 Timothy 3:1-5), and the stage is set for the rise of the antichrist. Jesus calls these birth pains (Matthew 24:8).
We are living in the time and season…we just don’t know the day or hour! Jesus could return any minute…there are no other prophecies that must be fulfilled. Yet, it is totally at the discretion of the Father.
If you are a believer, these are days of anticipation. Our Lord will soon return to take us to be with Him. But, if you have not put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, you are standing on a train track!
Get off the tracks and give your life to the One who died to pay for your sins. He rose on the third day to give all of us hope, that we too will rise to be with Him! Today is your day of decision. Heed the signs. The train is coming!
BTW – More reasons to get off the tracks when Pastor Jack joins forces with Amir Tsarfati, Charlie Kirk and Jeff Kinley at the Futures Conference this weekend. Don’t miss it!
