Sadly, friends, Iranian-backed terrorists, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad have launched over 300 rockets toward Israel, many of them aimed at Jerusalem. At the time of this writing, 2 Israelis have been killed. (Update: at least one other Israeli has perished in the battle.)
As a result of one of the largest rocket attacks from Gaza since 2012, the IDF is responding with great force. Several Hamas strongholds in Gaza are known to have been destroyed and lives of terrorists have been lost. Hamas is firing rockets from apartment buildings, schools, mosques and other places where innocent civilians live and gather. Cowards!
While jihadists cheer every missile that is launched toward Israel, the IDF is sending warning messages regarding buildings they target in Gaza, and are providing time for people to evacuate prior to total annihilation of those targets
Here is how it all began: as the Islamic holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, the “religion of peace” is exiting the holy month with a bang. (Pun totally intended!) Skirmishes with Israeli police on Temple Mount, the hotspot of the world, began a few days ago. It was all very scripted and well-prepared. In fact, piles of rocks were stationed around Temple Mount, to be used to throw at Israeli security forces. Once thrown and tensions mounted, Arabs headed for Al-Aqsa Mosque (on Temple Mount), with the objective of dragging the confrontation inside the mosque so that television coverage around the world would project Israel attacking a mosque. (Read more and see footage of the event here.)
That is EXACTLY the news that headlined around the world! If you watched US evening news last night, you saw what was reported. Indeed, the story line was that Israel attacked holy sites, and began bombing Gaza (injuring children and other civilians) after a “minor skirmish” in Jerusalem. No mention of the hundreds of rockets fired from Gaza into Israel, no mention of Iranian rhetoric regarding destroying Israel, no mention of years of Iranian-backed weaponry illegally delivered to Hamas and others in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, the West Bank, Yemen and other hostile places.
Only that Israel attacked a holy site and bombed civilians. TV screens were filled with images of “poor Arab civilians” injured in the attack. Most were terrorists or human shields used by Hamas. Some evidence exists showing the “dead” not really dead!
Radical leftist Ilhan Omar accused Israel of killing a family of 8 Gazans. The reality: that family was killed by a Hamas rocket that never found it’s way across the Israeli border. Sad.
Joe Biden responded by urging Israel not to escalate tensions any further. Meanwhile, Iranian speedboats are antagonizing US Navy vessels in the Strait of Hormuz! Weakness!
In the Middle East, any sign of weakness is an opportunity to attack. It has been that way for centuries. During the Trump administration, the Middle East remained relatively peaceful. A few minor rocket attacks by rogue actors, but nothing to speak of from Iran, Hamas or Hezbollah. They were kept at bay by demoralizing sanctions that gutted their economies. Now, with a president who is hell bent on reopening negotiations with the world’s dominate supporter of terrorism, Iran and its terror proxies smell blood in the water. The US will seemingly stand by and do very little (if anything) and Israel will be forced to withstand the onslaught on their own…and face international condemnation for doing so. Meanwhile, the US military is dangerously close to being handcuffed by the current administration.
Friends, this is the history of Israel in the Middle East. In the brief history since the rebirth of the nation on May 14, 1948, Israel has repeatedly been attacked by Arab nations. The enmity between Isaac and Ishmael remains in full force. Typically, no other nation actively sides with the Jewish state, yet Arab, and now Persian, nations join together with terrorist proxies in battle against the tiny nation-state.
Throughout ancient and modern history, God has been on Israel’s side. King David wrote about it in Psalm 124. Take a look:
124 “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,”
Let Israel say,
2 “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side
When people rose up against us,
3 Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their anger was kindled against us;
4 Then the waters would have flooded over us,
The stream would have swept over our souls;
5 Then the raging waters would have swept over our souls.”
6 Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth.
7 Our souls have escaped like a bird from the trapper’s snare;
The snare is broken and we have escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
God has been, and forever will be, on the side of His people! Israel WILL stand, because God says so. Yes, times like these will come, but the God of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.
We serve a faithful God, my friends, but the church must stand with Israel. In these times, God is watching over His people. However, pray for the people of Israel. Pray for the leaders of Israel. Pray for the Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli Air Force. They have difficult lives and jobs to perform right now. Our way to stand with Israel now is to pray for Israel.
62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her righteousness goes forth like brightness,
And her salvation like a torch that is burning.
2 The nations will see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory;
And you will be called by a new name
Which the mouth of the Lord will designate.
3 You will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
And a royal headband in the hand of your God.
6 On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen;~Isaiah 62:1-3, 6-7
All day and all night they will never keep silent.
You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;
7 And give Him no rest until He establishes
And makes Jerusalem an object of praise on the earth.
