My friends, we’re taking a break from our study to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day. While International Holocaust Remembrance Day is commemorated in January, Israel commemorates Yom HaShoah Ve-Hagevurah (“Remembrance of the Holocaust and the Heroism”) today.
At 11:00am (Israel time) sirens will sound for two minutes and the entire country will come to a standstill, remembering and honoring those who perished in the Holocaust, and heroes who risked their lives to save others.
For more information and a look at what actually happens when the sirens sound, click here.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we know how important it is to stand with Israel, which includes understanding the truth about the Holocaust and ensuring that it never happens again. Thus, it behooves us to understand what happened in those terrible days.
Joel Rosenberg produced a short (1 1/2-minute) documentary providing a glimpse of Auschwitz-Birkenau, one of the most prominent death camps of the Holocaust. Today, as we join with our Jewish friends in commemoration of the Holocaust, take a moment to watch this documentary.
We’ll continue our study tomorrow. See you then!
