Only a few days ago, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced peace talks in Moscow between Benjamin Netanyahu (Israel’s Prime Minister) and Mahmoud Abbas (Palestinian President).
Ironically, I found an article a day or two ago that reported that talks were cancelled almost as soon as the plans were announced! Such is the saga of peace talks between the two!
The “back story” I find intriguing, however, is the obvious attempt by Russia to become what BreakingIsraelNews.com calls “the primary regional broker,” supplanting the United States. While Russia is committing war crimes in Syria, they are positioning themselves to gain legitimacy in their actions by “playing the hero” in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. I just wonder if they realize what they are getting themselves into! Perhaps they will wear as much egg on the face as the US when they spend a good many years trying to get natural enemies to suddenly begin trusting one another and agree to demands they surely will never do.
You see, Russia’s attempts at peacemaking will be just as futile as anyone else’s as long as one side wants the other dead. God will not allow His people to become extinct! He has made an everlasting promise via the Abrahamic Covenant that Abraham will have descendants. For Russia, just as it is for the US, it is futile to dispute with Almighty God!
Despite the failure of talks, two people groups (Jews and Arabs) must come to realize that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob holds the keys to peace.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
It is the same chapter in which Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (verses 6-7)
Friends, there is only one way, one roadmap, for peace: the Lord Jesus Christ! He IS the way, the truth and the life…and it is He who leaves us with peace. Why should our hearts be troubled or afraid?
Peace between Israelis and Palestinians may not happen through our physical eyes. However, the peace that passes all understanding is Jesus Himself. If Israel would embrace her Messiah, she would have peace! And the greatest battle we can fight on Israel’s behalf in search of peace is to pray, pray, pray! Let’s get serious about praying for the peace of Jerusalem (indeed, all Israel) AND her neighbors.
Be part of the solution!
