Hi friends! A couple days ago we discovered a supreme gift extended to us Gentiles. The Jewish Messiah invited Gentiles to join Him in salvation, and He made the Jewish people “a holy nation and a kingdom of priests” in order to bless all nations. Yesterday, we celebrated the fact that a Jewish man named Paul committed Himself to Jesus and further revealed the marvelous mystery: Jews and Gentiles could be one in Yeshua, and neither had to lose their distinctive identity! In the eyes of Christ, there is neither Jew nor Gentile!
As Gentiles, we have a tremendous debt to pay!
Though the Apostle Paul once murdered fellow Jews who followed Jesus, he ultimately encountered the risen Messiah and it changed him forever. He became a missionary to the Gentiles! In doing so, he reminded Gentiles of their spiritual debt to the Jewish people (Romans 15:27) and urged remembrance of their Jewish roots (Romans 11:17-25).
Sadly, though, by the fourth century, Constantine had “Christianized” Rome and the Jews were outcast as followers of Yeshua. By the time Israel regained control of Jerusalem in 1967, a few Jewish believers began recovering their roots.
Today, every Jew and Gentile who comes to follow Messiah brings us closer to fulfillment of “the fullness of the Gentiles” when the time of the Gentiles will end and “all Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:25-26). Paul “got it!” He taught that though the Messiah was sent to Israel, they rejected Him, opening the door of mercy to Gentiles. Gentiles were, in turn, called to have mercy on Israel. Time to repay the debt!
For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.
At that point, Paul literally stopped writing and began to praise God! Check this out:
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
“For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been his counselor?”
“Or who has given a gift to him
that he might be repaid?”
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Thanks to the life of Christ in Paul, he brought the message of the Jewish Messiah to the nations. Now it is time for the nations (Gentiles) to repay the debt by giving the life-giving message of the Messiah back to Messiah’s own people! Gentile friends, let’s repay the debt!
