In the midst of the Holocaust, Jewish people were abandoned to the genocidal ambition of Nazi Germany. Seemingly no nation was willing to stand up to the Nazis until their killing machine was well-oiled and operating with great efficiency.
However, there were some who realized the plight of the Jews and did what they could to help. Most have heard the “big names” such as Corrie Ten Boom, Anne Frank, and Oscar Schindler. In fact, one can visit Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem and walk through areas honoring the Righteous Among the Nations (non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust).
But did you know that the small island country of the Philippines stood ready to welcome Jews when most nations did not? Did you know their president, Manuel Quezon, welcomed thousands of Jews because “Its the right thing to do?” He was, indeed, the “Oscar Schindler” of Asia!
While others turned a blind eye to genocide, the Philippines and their leader stood for righteousness! The story is worth hearing:
To my Filipino followers: God bless you…and thank you for standing with Israel!
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
