Anti-Israel Resolutions, “Operation Northern Shield,” and Political Drama in Israel

While hypocrisy continues to reign supreme at the United Nations, Israel is forced once again to take action to thwart Iranian-backed plans of attack, perhaps bolstering Netanyahu’s position as Prime Minister.

Lest you believe I’ve gone totally off the rails by lumping those current events into a hodgepodge of nonsense, stick with me.  I think we can draw it all together!

First, let’s tackle the kangaroo court known as the UN.  On Friday, six new anti-Israel resolutions passed, including two that reject Jewish ties to Temple Mount and the city of Jerusalem.  (Others had to do with the “Syrian Golan Heights,” and “peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine.”)

All this in an era where not one single resolution has been issued to deal with things such as the use of chemical weapons in the mass murder of Syrian civilians by the Syrian government; incessant missiles, fire kites, etc fired at Israeli citizens by Hamas; or Iranian violations of current UN resolutions prohibiting test firing of ballistic missiles.  Anti-Israel bias in the UN is as strong as ever.

While the UN is busy entertaining (and passing) ridiculous resolutions, the IDF is busy taking care of business on Israel’s northern border.  Yesterday they launched “Operation Northern Shield.”  After a decade of patiently monitoring construction of terror tunnels by Hezbollah, and the recent escalation of Iranian aggression via its proxies, Israeli military leaders determined it is time to deal with the threat.  The IDF is now on mission to destroy terror tunnels from Hezbollah-controlled, Iranian-backed Lebanon into Israel.  (Here is a video detailing Hezbollah’s plans, in their own words!)

That leads us to the complicated political situation in Israel.  It’s a long story I won’t go into here, but suffice it to say the press is hounding Netanyahu as he battles accusations of bribery and fraud.  Meanwhile, his government almost blew up a couple weeks ago when Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman resigned and left the coalition in protest of Netanyahu’s agreement to a ceasefire in Gaza.

That decision was criticized by many, though Netanyahu hinted that there were bigger fish to fry…but was unable to explain publicly.  Now we know what the “bigger fish” are: the Iranian-backed threat on the northern border.  Wisely, PM Netanyahu did not want to stretch his military thin, should more action break out on the northern border.

With a coalition hanging on by a thread, and a possible indictment over his head, “Operation Northern Shield” could not have come at a better time!  Particularly in Israel, leaders typically gain much greater support when national security is at stake.  (Find out more about that in Northern Shield was Planned, but its Political Timing is Impeccable.)

So, how do we tie it all together?  Easily.  Israel will ultimately stand alone, so action at the UN should be no surprise.  Iran and other foes will be relatively free to operate without major ramifications from the UN or anyone else, leaving Israel no choice but to take care of their own national security.  That requires strong leadership, and it seems that Benjamin Netanyahu has been called by God “for such a time as this.”  Will it last?  Perhaps not, as God alone…not Netanyahu, not the IDF, and not any other force…will deal with Israel’s enemies when the War of Gog and Magog actually occurs.

The time could be very near.

BREAKING: Netanyahu Government Collapsing?

On Tuesday, a ceasefire brokered by Egypt and the UN between Hamas and Israel was officially ratified.  Prime Minister Netanyahu’s agreement to the ceasefire has created a firestorm in the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has resigned, expressing his displeasure with “ongoing excuses” in failing to deal more strongly with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

He has called for an early election and current Education Minister Naftali Bennett has threatened to leave the coalition if he is not given the Defense Minister position.

For those wondering how government works in Israel, here’s a very brief explanation.  There are at least 20+ political parties in Israel and 120 seats in the Knesset.  During each election, each party presents a list of candidates and the number of elected representatives from each party is proportional to the percentage of support their party receives.  A majority coalition is formed by parties in general agreement with a common agenda. The remaining parties serve as check and balance to the power of the coalition.  The chairman of the largest party in the coalition is typically tapped as Prime Minister.  The honor of actually selecting the Prime Minister is reserved for the President, who may choose who he wishes.  After which, the President has much less political clout than the Prime Minister he selects.

In the current scenario, Yisrael Beiteinu (Avigdor Lieberman’s party) and Bayit Hayehudi (Naftali Bennett’s party) are both part of the Netayahu/Likud coalition, but are threatening to leave, which would cause the Netanyahu government to collapse.

Politics in Israel are often much more volatile than those in America.  Only recently, Benjamin Netanyahu was himself considering calling for early elections, and his party (Likud) was expected to win handily and form a stronger coalition.  Now, however, he may face a stiffer challenge.

So, what’s the point?  Much of the Israeli public, particularly in the south, is dissatisfied with Netanyahu’s “dovish” stance toward Hamas.  Could it cause a loss of seats for Likud and a splintering of parties typically favorable to Netanyahu and Likud?  Or, will Netanyahu’s stability as Prime Minister be regained by election time?  Only time will tell in the crazy world of Israeli politics.

More importantly, though, is the “big picture” of how God seems to be setting the stage for end time events. The Trump-Netanyahu partnership has had tremendous impact on stemming the rising tide of globalism, antisemitism and the dividing of land (which the Bible specifically warns against).  I continue to believe God has called two men, Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump, for such a time as this. Ultimately, though, it appears animosity for each in their home countries could eventually lead to wide open doors for evil to swoop in to measures we have never seen.  I have consistently said I am not a fan of Donald Trump, the man.  But I firmly believe God has used him to bless Israel.  Once that blessing leaves, America could experience God’s hand of blessing removed for good, and we could find our nation either opposed to or uninterested in Israel.  At that point, Israel will stand alone…just as the Bible tells us she will.

But take heart, friends! This is only a “what if” scenario, but even if events happen as described (or worse), God is fully in control! The point is not to scare people. The point is to prepare people. That’s what Bible prophecy does! As believers in Jesus Christ, we know we could face difficult times, but we will never experience the wrath of God. He has promised to deliver us from it! (1Thessalonians 1:10, 1Thessalonians 5:9)  He is coming for us soon!

Check back later today for specific words of encouragement as we face the days ahead!  Shalom…peace!

“Bloodthirsty” Israelis Blow up Terror Tunnels Originating in the Gaza Strip

Over the past week, more terror tunnels originating in the Gaza Strip were discovered.  Almost immediately after Israel destroyed 33 terror tunnels in the Gaza Srip in 2014, Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists began re-building them.

Just last week, the UN announced that a terror tunnel was discovered under one of their schools in the Gaza Strip.  Hamas is notorious for building tunnels and storing weapons in places such as schools, hospitals and mosques because they know Israel will not attack those places.  Yet, what did the UN do upon finding the tunnel?  Sanction the Palestinians?  Destroy the tunnel? Arrest the militants responsible?  No…they did nothing.

A couple days later, the IDF discovered a terror tunnel leading into Israel, very near a Jewish community.  The Islamic Jihad-constructed tunnel was blown up on the Israeli side of the border.  However, apparently due to explosives stored in the tunnel by terrorists, additional explosions caused the death of at least 7 Palestinians (two high-ranking commanders).

(UPDATE: The death toll has risen to at least 14 killed in the tunnels.  Also, the IDF has discovered many more tunnels which have not yet reached the Israeli border.  Once they do, Israel has vowed to destroy those tunnels as well.)

That has resulted in…you guessed it…accusations against the “bloodthirsty” Israelis for “trying to bend the will of the oppressed people of the occupied territories to guarantee its security by killing Palestinian youths.”  (According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi)

Indeed, the mindset continues to be that terrorist organizations may perpetuate violence and destruction, hide weapons behind human shields and infiltrate Israel with ambitions of kidnapping and killing Jews; while Israel is the big bully for destroying the jihadists’ means of terror.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “Today, we detected a tunnel and destroyed it, and we will continue to do so… We will continue to protect Israel’s borders.”  While Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said, “I think the message is clear to all.  We will not tolerate breaches of Israeli sovereignty… This proves that, despite Palestinian unity, the Gaza Strip remains a terrorist kingdom and, for us, there is no doubt Hamas, which controls Gaza, is responsible.”

So, the beat goes on.  How long can the tiny nation hold off those who desire their destruction? We don’t know.  But what we DO know is that God has vested interest in protecting His chosen land and His chosen people!  He will ensure Israel’s survival, even to the degree that, ultimately, He will step in on their behalf and put an end to the evil perpetrated against them.

Keep looking up, my friends!  Our time is short and our Lord will take us (believers) out of here before showing up on the scene to rescue His people!  Are you ready?

Only hours ago, the first F-35 fighter jets, named “Adir” (“mighty”) in Hebrew, arrived at Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel.  Ceremonies to welcome the arrival were delayed over 5 hours due to inclement weather out of Italy.  Honored guests at the ceremony included President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, OC Air Force Maj.-Gen. Amir Eshel, US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and US Ambassador Dan Shapiro.

Israel was one of about 7 countries who had a part in designing the new jet, and is the first nation to receive delivery of the fiercest fighters in the skies.  Netanyahu stated: “Israel is taking off to new heights, and when our pilots in the ‘Adir’ jets will fly high, we will watch them with pride.”  To which US Defense Secretary Carter replied, “Together, the US and Israel will now dominate the skies.”

BTW, this development is not a moment too soon.  News has broken that the Russians, Iran and the Assad regime have now overtaken Aleppo, Syria’s largest city.  Damascus is next, so take a look at Isaiah 17:1 then keep your eyes on Damascus.
