A few days ago, we focused on what might be the most important Bible prophecy of all. Today, we will consider another prophecy that rivals it in importance and is counted among the most remarkable. That is Israel’s return to their homeland and their unique restoration.
Once conquered by the Romans in 70 AD and dispersed all over the world, Israel’s story seemed to have ended. Yet, the prophets of old told a different story! Israel would be reborn in a day (Isaiah 66:8) and the Jewish people would regather to their land (Ezekiel 36-37).
It seemed impossible. They were literally scattered all over the globe, their land was swampy and desolate, their language was all but dead, and they seemed to have lost the inheritance promised to them by God. Like Florida’s crystal clear Santa Fe River that flows for 44 miles, filled with boaters, fishermen and inner tubers, then suddenly disappears, so Israel’s ancient culture and history seemed to drop out of sight.
The Santa Fe River drops into a sinkhole and cannot be seen for 3 miles. Then, it reemerges to complete its course. So is the story of Israel. Once thriving, then scattered and forsaken, Israel resurfaced on May 14, 1948, when it regained statehood!
Not only that, but the hope of Israel’s Messiah was reignited. The blessed promise of One who will ultimately reign over a kingdom of peace, including peace with God (Isaiah 2:2-3), will soon be fulfilled as well.
And here is some fantastic news: Not only is prophecy’s fulfillment meant to bless the Jewish people, but those of us who commit ourselves to the Jewish Messiah as well! The prophets foretold a time when those from all nations will gather together and worship Jesus the Messiah, the King of Kings, and the Holy One of Israel! God’s house, in the Holy City of Jerusalem will, during the Millennial Kingdom, be a house of prayer and thanksgiving for those of all nations who put their faith in Him! (Zechariah 8:22–23, Isaiah 54:6–7)
Because God is faithful in His promises to Israel, we can rest assured He will be faithful in His promises to us. For those whose trust is in Jesus, we will join with saints from around the world to praise and worship our Redeemer! O, what a glorious day…all because of Israel’s miraculous restoration!
Stay tuned. We’ll talk more about this in a few days!
