Israel: Living Prophecy

We talk about Bible prophecy all the time, particularly the seemingly at-our-doorstep prophecies of Isaiah 17:1 (fall of Damascus) and Ezekiel 38 (War of Gog and Magog). But did you know Israel is living out Bible prophecy every single day, right before our eyes?

It’s true! Since Israel’s rebirth in 1948, Bible prophecy has played out daily. Let’s take a look at how that has happened:

Dear friends, the prophets of past millennia clearly reported events that we see happening in the world today. Isn’t that incredible! Because of that, we can know the Bible is credible, relevant and 100% accurate.

In 2019 (and beyond!), I pray you will stand firm on God’s Word. Prophecy validates it and you can trust it!

Blessings, friends!

Week 10 – The King is Coming!

Welcome back, study friends!  Last week, as we gathered around the virtual study table, we focused on the invitation that must be offered in order to bring the King (Jesus) home.  That invitation is found in Matthew 23:39, where Jesus said:

“For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

So, that is our backdrop as we move to this week’s study.  Jesus is coming back, but will not “barge onto the scene.”  He is waiting to hear the Jewish people declare “Baruch haba b’shem Adonai!” (Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.)

While on earth, Jesus taught “kingdom lessons.”  His promise to Abraham included land and descendants…a kingdom on earth.  The land given was Israel, but until 1948 it was difficult to imagine a kingdom made up of Abraham’s descendants, as the Jews were dispersed all over the world and Gentiles ruled the “kingdom” designated to the Jews.

But, when the nation of Israel was re-born in 1948, that opened the opportunity to establish “headquarters” once again.  Today, Israel is back in the land and Gentiles no longer rule the kingdom.

Biblically, God must preserve them.  Romans 11:29 tells us the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable, and He is not a liar!  He intends a kingdom, and a new kingdom is coming.

When God called Abraham and promised a kingdom, He had a worldwide kingdom in mind.  Romans 4:13 tells us Abraham was heir of the whole world, thus the inheritance was worldwide, not only the Jewish state.

God also had in mind a worldwide family, made of more than simply Abraham’s physical descendants.  As we discussed last week, Galatians 3 (particularly verses 7 and 29) tells us those of faith…those who belong to Christ…are Abraham’s descendants!

God is bringing together one flock with one Shepherd…united in Christ via the covenants we studied over the past two weeks!

Let’s close out today’s discussion with this:

For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
~Romans 2:28-29

Just as God called a pagan Gentile (Abraham) as father of the Jews, He invites us as Gentiles into His family as well!

We’ll continue these thoughts tomorrow, so be sure to check back then!  Blessings!

Times Square Says: “I Love Israel!”

I Love Israel

I recently ran across this video, commemorating the UN’s November 1947 Partition Plan that set the stage for Israel’s rebirth in 1948.  It’s a 70-year anniversary…let’s celebrate!

Jerusalem: A Heavy Stone

Image result for jerusalem heavy stone

I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone, and all who lift it will be severely injured.

The prophet Zechariah wrote today’s headlines 2500 years ago!  As the Lord spoke this vision to Zechariah, he saw what Jerusalem would become today:

“Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.”
~Zechariah 12:2-3

The battle for Jerusalem is heating up…and someone is about to get hurt.

It is true, Jerusalem has been hotly contested territory throughout history.  King David declared Jerusalem the capital city around 1000 BC, but what followed were successive conquests by:

  • Assyrians (about 700 BC)
  • Babylonians (586 BC)
  • Persians (539 BC)
  • Greeks (332 BC)
  • Romans (63 BC)
  • Persians (614 AD)
  • Byzantines (629 AD)
  • Muslims (638 AD)
  • Crusaders (1099 AD)
  • Mamluk Muslims (1250 AD)
  • Ottomans (1517 AD)
  • British Mandate (1917 AD)

That brings us to Israel’s re-birth in 1948.  So, finally the issue of Jerusalem is settled, right?  Wrong!  Within 24 hours after declaring statehood, Israel was attacked, and ultimately control of Jerusalem was split between Israel and Jordan.

Following the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel recaptured the entire Old City, including Temple Mount.  Issue solved, right?  Wrong!  In the interest of peace, control of Temple Mount and a large chunk of Jerusalem was given to the Arabs.  Subsequently, it became popular for the Palestinians to claim “ownership” of parts of Jerusalem, and identify it as their capital.

So, what do we see today?  Perhaps an even deeper step into the prophecy of Zechariah. Through the prophet, the Lord warned that, in the last days, Jerusalem would become a heavy stone, and that those who tried to lift it would be injured.  For years, the Palestinians have been trying to move the heavy stone.  On December 6, President Donald Trump dropped a bombshell when he officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Since Israel’s rebirth, no nation has made such declaration until now, and the nations of the world are reeling.  In a clear revelation of just how radically Islamicized much of the world is, the UN Security Council voted yesterday to condemn Trump’s decision….only to have US Ambassador Nikki Haley use American veto power to annul the vote!  (More about that tomorrow!)

At a time when the world in general is backing the Palestinian demand for Jerusalem, it is clear most have forgotten God’s everlasting covenant with Abraham.  He promised Abraham and his descendants the land, and despite what any people group, powerful person or the United Nations say, Jerusalem belongs to the Jewish people!
