Welcome back, friends! Yesterday, we focused on 3 Generations and 1 Unbroken Covenant. If you missed it, be sure to begin there so today’s post makes sense!

We established the fact that the Abrahamic Covenant must go through Abraham’s line of descendants, including Isaac and Jacob, and that Israel’s God-given role is to bless all the families of the earth. The Abrahamic Covenant is alive and operating today, thanks to God’s mandate and the grace to carry it out!

But let’s put it to the test historically. In 1917, the Balfour Declaration was put forth within the British government for the purpose of establishing a Jewish state. Britain was the world’s superpower at the time, and it was said the sun never set on the British Empire because it stretched across much of the globe.

In 1939, Britain issued a white paper, expressing their support for a Jewish homeland, yet the British also seemed eager to wash their hands of the Jews. They closed off immigration to Israel even as Jews were fleeing from European madness. It was a tremendous betrayal by the British government.

In the years that followed, many British territories broke away from the motherland and by 1980 only a few remained under British rule. Indeed, the sun began to set on the empire. Meanwhile, America stepped in to champion Israel’s rebirth and in 1948, President Truman, a student of Scripture, officially recognized Israel as a nation only 11 minutes after Israel declared independence.

US support of Israel was strong, and in the decades that followed we became the world’s utmost superpower, dominating economically, militarily, technologically and culturally.

Though it is true that nations rise and fall for many reasons, it is difficult to relegate the blessings-and-curses principle as obsolete or irrelevant. The trajectory is undeniable. The nation who betrayed Israel with the Holocaust lost an empire within a single generation. Meanwhile, the nation who championed a Jewish state rose to global dominance. But that can turn on a dime, as it did in Germany.

Anecdote or evidence? The pattern is consistent with Biblical teaching. The promises to Abraham did not die with him but were passed through generation after generation. Likewise, the families of the earth are greatly blessed with a Savior, the Jewish Messiah…Jesus!

Some dismiss the pattern of evidence and call it anecdotal (or nonexistent). True Bible students know the difference and see the evidence. Ignoring or denying it does not make it go away! Our God has always been faithful to Israel, and He will always be faithful to us, His adopted children!
