Is Peace Possible…or Will Hamas Once More Foil Plans for the Betterment of Palestinians?

Just moments ago President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu wrapped up a press conference in which both proclaimed a peace deal is imminent, pending Hamas’ approval.

That deal includes:

  • The return of all Israeli hostages (alive and dead) within 72 hours of the agreement.
  • A secure perimeter, ensuring Israeli safety from militant, radical terrorism from the Gaza Strip.
  • Demilitarization of Gaza, also ensuring Israel’s safety
  • A government, headed by a “Board of Peace” with President Trump at the helm.

Trump also laid out a much broader vision for the Middle East, namely, the expansion of the Abraham Accords. In doing so, he touted the leadership quality of moderate Muslim nations and his belief they will participate fairly.

Two key take aways (among many others):

  1. The Palestinians have never “missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.” It is difficult to imagine they will settle for Trump’s 21-point peace deal if it means giving up hostages (the only point of leverage they have) and disarming. Their stated goal throughout their existence has been to wipe Israel off the map. Leopards don’t change their spots.
  2. Depending upon certain Arab leaders (such as Qatar and Turkey) who have consistently backed and supported Hamas seems like depending upon a wolf to guard a henhouse. Will it work? Only time will tell. But Trump and his team have much more confidence in evil actors than many of us do.

Dear friends, God’s Word teaches us to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9), and we should pray fervently to that end. May God remove any doubt we have in His ability to move upon hearts and minds to bring peace.

The Bible also teaches us to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16). May President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu, our allies and their administrations be blessed with supernatural wisdom and discernment. Biblically speaking, we know how the story ends, but may the chapters to be written be done so in Godly wisdom and righteousness.

This morning’s post was a call to prayer. I believe God hears and is answering. Please continue to pray, as the days ahead will not be easy.
