Beware of Replacement Theology

There is a cancer growing in the church. Some know the disease is eating away at the church, but refuse “treatment” (truth of God’s Word). Others lack the discernment to recognize just how prevalent it is, even within seemingly strong congregations.

That cancer is Replacement Theology, and it infiltrates churches who do not keep their guard up. It is often subtle and insidious. The false doctrine of Replacement Theology posits that, because the Jewish people rejected the first coming of the Messiah, all Biblical promises of God to the Jewish people are now transferred to the church. That is heresy!

According to Amir Tsarfati:

There are now more churches that believe that God is done with Israel than churches that believe God is not done with Israel. This widespread view stems from a lack of understanding of God’s unconditional covenants. It’s not about the faithfulness of Israel; it’s about the faithfulness of God.

Harkening back to God’s covenant with Abraham, Genesis 17 (particularly verse 7) absolutely confirms who the parties to the covenant are, and its duration. In case you missed it, the covenant is with Abraham (father of the Jews) and his descendants, and it is everlasting. There is no question that God’s promises were meant for the Jewish people, not the church. And everlasting is everlasting! He promised Israel He would never forsake her, even when she is disobedient

Romans 11, Paul provides further insight into the idea that God has not given up on his Hebrew kinsmen. God has absolutely NOT rejected Israel! Israel remains the uniquely-called people of God and nothing will change that.

Yet, in His gracious sovereignty, God opened a way for us Gentiles to enter the kingdom of God. That “opened way” is not a set of transferred promises. It is believing in the very Messiah the Jewish people failed to recognize! The result is not rejection of the Jews, but partial blindness until the fulness of the Gentiles comes in.

God’s promises belong eternally to His uniquely-called people. But His grace upon Gentiles also includes the opening to the means of salvation. It’s a win-win!

Friends, be careful of Bible promises you claim as your own as a follower of Christ. We must realize that, though the principle may apply to us as Gentiles, the original promises belong to the Jews! Run from false teaching…including Replacement Theology!
