Dear friends, we live in an age of evil, and it will continue to become more so as the day of Christ’s appearing draws near. We’re not fighting simply a cultural or societal battle. It is a spiritual battle, and spiritual battles must be fought with spiritual weapons (Ephesians 6:10-20) and in spiritual posture (in prayer, on our knees!
A while back, I posted Is This the Enemy’s Game Plan, in which we focused on how prevalent deception is in our world. We are deceived into believing good is evil and evil is good.
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
~Isaiah 5:20
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Seemingly, nowhere does good and evil get blurred any worse than in the US Congress. Even the supposedly more conservative Republican party is often off the rails! Have you ever noticed that our elected leaders often get more liberal the longer they are in office, yet hardly ever has an elected official become more conservative as they continue to serve.
Why is that? Because, as sinful creatures, we are drawn toward evil and must be diligent to seek out and follow the narrow way.
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
~Matthew 7:13-14
So, what’s the point? The point is that 47 Republicans just voted with all 220 Democrats in the House of Representatives to codify same sex marriage into federal law. That means, unless the Senate defeats it, states rights (where the power belongs) will once again be pre-empted by big government, and our nation will slide still further into the abyss of immorality.
How did we get here, and what lessons can we learn as followers of Jesus Christ?
I harken back to a progression of evil I originally heard Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens discuss. Their thesis regarding evil’s progression is this:
- Tolerance – “live and let live,” you do you and I’ll do me, and we’ll all be one big happy family.
- Acceptance – we should love and accept people just the way they are. (Note: Absolutely, we should love one another, but as believers, we should never condone that which God condemns. Love the sinner, hate the sin.)
- Celebration – we must “celebrate,” cheer and support that which is evil. If we fail to “affirm one’s identity,” we are guilty of hate speech.
- Participation – after tolerating, accepting and celebrating evil, we must participate in it.
To apply that thesis to the example of US Congress legalizing gay marriage, we passed through the tolerance stage long ago when we thought if we simply gave gay people the right to marry whomever they pleased, they would quietly live and let live. Not so!
We were dragged into the acceptance phase where we must condone a lifestyle contrary to our beliefs. Congress acted at least on this level, if not the next, when the House passed the Respect for Marriage Act. “We’ll jam it down your throat whether you like it or not! You must accept it…you don’t have a choice!”
Next comes the celebration stage, and I would argue we’ve already been there, done that! Remember the Obama years when the White House suddenly appeared in rainbow colors!?! WooHoo…let’s celebrate this evil!
Disgusting!
But wait…there’s more! Immoral sexual behavior is now being forced on our children! They are being pressured to participate. Books are written and curriculum is taught about two mommies or two daddies. Children as young as pre-school are being taught about immoral sexual things, and are given the choice of what gender they want to be.
And the Christian world, by and large, sits idly by.
Dear Christian friends, I sincerely hope we find the courage and the chutzpah to rise up and defend our Biblical values before they all disappear and we find ourselves living in a country we do not recognize. Perhaps it sounds like fantasy to you. If so, may I gently say, “That is precisely why it is happening.” We see it as fantasy, while radicals view it and promote it as legitimate
May I remind you of Paul’s strong words to the Romans:
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality…32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
~Romans 1:26-29, 32
God’s Word told us the last days would look like this. Be steadfast, my friends. Jesus will come for us soon, but we must do His business until He comes! (Luke 19:11-13)
