Yesterday the US House of Representative voted overwhelmingly in support of the rights of Iranian people to peacefully protest the Iranian regime’s oppression. Iranian people are experiencing a tumbling economy and very high unemployment because their government insists on funneling hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars to terrorist, while ignoring their citizens’ needs.
The House resolution simply “condemns the Iranian regime’s serious human rights abuses against the Iranian people, significant corruption and destabilizing activities abroad.”
While we can rejoice that the measure passed in a 415-2 vote, doesn’t it make you wonder which two representatives were crazy enough to oppose such a resolution? Do they really see the behavior of the Iranian regime as okay? (Click the “415-2 vote” link above to find out how your representative voted!)
By the way, AIPAC has a simple webpage you can use to send thanks to your representative, and to encourage your senators to vote likewise on the the Senate version of the resolution. It will automatically identify your representative and senators (regardless of the state in which your live), and provide a form letter. All you have to do is input your name and address.
Friends, it doesn’t get any easier than that! Our leaders in Congress need to hear from us. If you are an American citizen, will you please make your voice heard? This is a rare occasion when Democrats and Republican agree on something. It takes 30 seconds, so let’s bombard our Congressmen with thanks!
PS: If Walter Jones (R – NC) or Thomas Massie (R – KY) are your Congressmen, they definitely need to hear from you! Please express your displeasure in their vote AGAINST the freedom and human rights of the Iranian people, and FOR a tyrannical regime who will sacrifice its people to destroy Israel and the United States.
Yesterday we talked about a very key communication from Congress to President Obama regarding standing strong with Israel against the underhanded attempts by the Palestinians to use the UN to unilaterally declare statehood. That, of course, would leave Israel in an even greater security predicament than they are in right now! With the threat of a nuclear Iran (don’t be fooled by the Nuclear Agreement…Iran is actively utilizing the loopholes there to become a nuclear power); Iranian-backed Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Taliban; and the threat of spillover by ISIS and other terrorist groups from Syria, Israel faces unprecedented security challenges.
To help you understand the depth of these challenges, I refer you to these fact sheets produced by AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee):
This is vital information of which to be aware as you pray for Israel, and for our own country. It is important to understand that there are many threats facing Israel today. However, from a Biblical standpoint, I’m not sure there is one any greater than Iran. Not only does their leadership sense a call by Allah to bring about chaos that will usher in the Islamic “messiah,” but they have absolutely no regard for human life. What’s more, they consider Israel the “little Satan,” while they set their sights on the “great Satan”…the United States of America. Friends, if Israel is not safe, America is not safe.
So, why is this a Biblical issue? Several reasons, including:
The promise that those who bless Israel will be blessed, while those who curse Israel will be cursed. (Genesis 12:3)
Those who participate in dividing up the land of Israel (which will occur if the US and other do not stand firm against the unilateral takeover of territory by the Palestinians) will be called into judgement by God. (Joel 3:2)
Ezekiel 38-39 clearly tells us that Iran will be a major player in an end time event known as the Northern Invasion. Are we seeing the groundwork being laid for that event?
So, check out the fact sheets above, then view today’s events through the lens of Scripture to understand the Biblical significance of what we see in our world today.
Ok, it’s not an exhaustive test, but AIPAC has put together an informative quiz to help you understand the security crisis Israel faces day in and day out. Here’s the quiz, but don’t worry…you won’t be graded!
Meanwhile, as you know a major part of the recent AIPAC Policy Conference centered around lobbying Congress on three specific points regarding Israel. One point had to do with supporting bilateral negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, rather than allowing the Palestinians to make a unilateral declaration of statehood via the UN. I’m happy to say that my Senators (John McCain and Jeff Flake), as well as my House Representative (David Schweikert) were already on board with the stance in which we were lobbying. However, today I’m happy to tell you that virtually every member of the House, Republicans and Democrats alike (including every Representative from my home state of Arizona!), signed a letter to President Obama, urging him to take the same stance! Here is a copy of the letter…see if you can identify your Representative!
UPDATE: I just learned that 83 members of the Senate sent a bipartisan letter to President Obama advocating for expansion of American security support of Israel…another of the three points in which we lobbied Congress! See that letter here.
Finally, I want to alert you to a very informative fact sheet on the Pursuit of Peace in the Middle East. I hope you will use these resources to better educate yourself regarding the situation in which Israel finds herself in the midst of a very tough neighborhood.
Tomorrow I’ll share a bit more about Israel’s security and the need for America to stand with her!
Hi gang! The AIPAC Policy Conference continues and early this afternoon we were briefed on our lobbying appointments with Senators and Representatives tomorrow. Imagine 18,000 political activists invading Capitol Hill with a very unified message! More thoughts about that later, but here are the three key points that all delegates will be making to our Congressmen:
Respond to Iran’s regional aggression. We will urge our Congressional leaders to support reauthorization of the Iran Sanctions Act, and to respond toughly when Iran violates agreements.
Support direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, rather than risk the UN forcing the issue. AIPAC’s stance is definitely a “two-state solution,” which I struggle with if US policy is to pressure Israel to the negotiating table. Unless and until the Palestinians recognize and acknowledge a Jewish state and begin to act responsibly for peace, I don’t believe America should pressure Israel. PLEASE PRAY! I want to be sensitive to AIPAC’s interests, while remaining committed to Biblical principle.
Support security assistance to Israel. Our task is to lobby our Senators and Representatives to support Israel financially and with equipment for the IDF.
One thing is becoming very obvious: without a perfect foundation and plumbline, the “right thing” is left to majority vote, or the opinions of the rich and powerful.
Now, to continue my thought from above. Imagine if 18,000 CHRISTIANS gathered in such unity, with a foundation and plumbline of God’s Word!
Regardless of popular opinion, Christians must remain committed to our solid foundation, and let’s take every opportunity to “lobby” others to trust in the God of the Word! Let’s also commit to gather at the throne of God and lobby for HIS interests! That’s how we bless Israel!
Blessings everyone, and thanks for praying!
PS: Our lobbying appointments were just confirmed. Please pray as our delegation lobbies:
