Day 23: 31 Days of Prayer for Israel – Underground Disciples

Imagine living in a situation in which you could lose your life if family, friends, government officials or others knew of your faith in Jesus Christ. Some don’t have to imagine it…they live it. That is sad, and we hear news of it in areas of the world where radical extremism runs rampant. But surely not in Israel, right?

Think again. Whether Jewish or Muslim, some who come to Christ in Israel (and the region) risk their very lives in doing so. True, Israel has freedom of religion, but some families consider it anathema for Jews or Muslims to turn to faith in Jesus as Messiah.

Together with One for Israel, let’s pray for those in that situation, and for the ministry of OFI to effectively reach those people with encouragement and courage.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

~Ephesians 3:17b-18 (NIV)

Personal discipleship isn’t just a great need for new believers. One for Israel’s challenge is to help develop the spiritual maturity of the entire Body of Messiah in Israel. It’s especially difficult when many of those they reach are afraid to even tell their spouse about their faith, much less attend a local congregation.

Today, pray that all Israeli believers become more deeply rooted and grounded, that they would grow in faith, hope, and love. Pray for OFI’s online discipleship team and for the new believers being counseled, that they would take the bold steps of faith into discipleship and a local community of believers.
