Thanks for sticking with our prayer commitment for Israel during May. We’re following along with a 31-day prayer guide produced by One for Israel. OFI is a fantastic ministry, made up of native Israelis who have met Messiah and are now sharing Him with other Jews and Arabs in Israel. Their initiatives are big and bold, and very effective in reaching the masses in Israel with the Gospel of Jesus!
You may not know, but more Jews from Russia have poured into Israel over the years than any other country in the world. Therefore, a sizable Russian-speaking demographic exists in Israel. Let’s learn about the ministry to Russian Jews, and pray for them to see the Messiah!
The people who walked in darkness
~Isaiah 9:2
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined.
As the Iron Curtain fell in the 1980’s, Israel experienced a massive influx of Jewish immigration from the former Soviet Union. Today there are one and a half million Russian-speakers in Israel, making up almost a fifth of the total population. Many of the Russian Israelis reached by One for Israel come from broken family situations, and drug and alcohol abuse is sadly common. But despite the challenges, God is opening doors of ministry in a powerful way, and OFI is training pastors and ministry leaders to serve in the churches planted in these communities.
Pray for the churches and ministries reaching out to Russian-speaking brothers and sisters, for OFI’s online Russian outreach to bring the light to those in darkness, for freedom for those in recovery from substance abuse, and for awakening in Israeli cities.
