Pressure on the far left from Republicans and Democrats alike resulted in a stand-alone bill introduce and passed in the House for $1 billion in aid to Israel for the Iron Dome. (You can read more about that here.)
Some have asked, “Why does America give so much money to Israel?” The fact of the matter is that America gives far less to Israel than to other nations and people groups (historically, including the Palestinians). Israel happens to be America’s strongest ally in the Middle East, and the value of intelligence and advanced technology that Israel shares with the US far outweighs the cost of military aid. In fact, much of the aid provided to Israel must be spent on American-made military equipment such as the new F-35’s Israel purchases from the US. Not only is much of the money spent in the US, but it also supports thousands of American jobs! It is a win-win for both nations.
The US has provided aid to Israel since the rebirth of the nation in 1948. In fact, in 2016 the Obama administration entered into a 10-year memorandum of understanding with Israel, committing at least $3.8 billion in security assistance each year. This spending bill was certainly nothing new!
Partnering with Israel has been one of the few bipartisan efforts in Washington over the years. It is just recently, particularly with the rise of “the Squad,” that assistance to Israel has come into question.
Standing with Israel is Biblical, and the result is blessing. (Genesis 12:3) The US is wise to continue blessing Israel in every way possible.
