Jesus’ Command to Believers: “Occupy Till I Come!”

Okay friends, are you ready for another journey together? On Monday, I touched on the fact it is time for Christians to rise up to defend the Biblical values and principles upon which our nation was built. It is time for us to take our country back or risk the America we know and love to be overcome by godlessness.

Some say it is impossible to stabilize America. Some look to a political leader to rescue us from a demented government. Some wrap themselves in the “I don’t get involved in politics” cloak. But Jesus Himself commands something very different than each of those thoughts! Take a 60-second look:

Here is the expanded passage from Matthew 24:42-46:

42 “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44 For this reason you must be ready as well; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. 45 “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household slaves, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.”

Throughout history, God called men and women to be engaged in their culture and in civic life (often, including politics of the day). David, a man after God’s own heart, was king of Israel. Joseph (in Egypt) and Daniel (in Babylon) were high in command under foreign leaders while Israel was in exile. Matthew, one of Jesus’ disciples, was active in the public square as a tax collector. Esther was chosen queen to a Persian king. The prophets had the ear of Israel’s leaders (whether they liked it or not!) Are we any different? Are we “off the hook” because we live in a different time and place?

No! In fact, Jesus’ command to be found doing the Master’s business is meant specifically for those awaiting the Lord’s return! (Matthew 24 tells us that!) The same idea, in a very different parable, is stated like this: “Occupy till I come!” (Luke 19:11-13 KJV)That is Jesus’ command to us as believers!

  • Based on what you have just seen and read, is there any doubt what is God calling us (believers) to do?
  • Is it impossible to stabilize America? It has been done in four Great Awakenings. Why not a fifth?
  • Will it be a political leader who rescues us? God is our Commander-in-Chief…what more do we need?
  • Does Jesus give us the option not to be involved? Only if we wish to live under the tyranny of others. Do you?

Here is some editorial transparency: I’m not sure where this journey will take us, but God is at the helm! One thing I am sure of: America, Israel and the church are inextricably linked. If the church does not arise, America will be in no position to stand with Israel. There is a growing movement of Christian pastors and leaders who are creating a ground swell and I want to be part of what the Lord is doing. Don’t you?

If so, join in! With God’s Word as our guide, we will strive to engage and to impact our families, friends, cities, states and nation. We will seek out resources and opportunities to do so. Occupying until He comes is not a spectator sport, so our goal is to get out of the stands and into the game!
