Following peace deals with UAE and Bahrain, news began swirling about the possibility of other moderate Arabs nations following suit. The “big catch,” of course, would be Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam.
Hints that the Saudis might one day consider a peace deal with Israel have escalated, and recently, the Saudi Foregin Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud, indicated the kingdom is “committed to the process of peace,” and sees peace with Israel a “strategic necessity.”
Despite Saudi Arabia’s commitment to get Israel and the Palestinians back to the negotiating table in hopes of forging a Palestinian state, the Arab’s key interest is joining with the US in its pressure on Iran to keep them from building a nuclear bomb.
The details are many, as noted in a recent interview with the Saudi prince here. But let’s stop for a moment to consider the Biblical significance of such a peace deal.
We are aware the Israel will one day be invaded by a coalition including Russia, Iran, Turkey, Libya and Sudan. The prophet Ezekiel lays out the details of that invasion in Ezekiel 38-39. But pay particular attention to Ezekiel 38:13:
13 Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?
Seems benign until you understand the context and discover the identity of Sheba and Dedan! Let’s clear up the identity first. Sheba and Dedan refer to the Arabian peninsula, namely Saudi Arabia and perhaps Oman (another country on the cusp of peace with Israel).
So we see Bible prophecy talking about Saudi Arabia…the very country now considering peace with Israel! Let’s get the context.
The prophet Ezekiel is, in essence, saying, “There will be a group of nations (Sheba and Dedan, as well as others) who will stand back and simply ask questions when that northern invasion begins. Saudi Arabia will not join in the attack, but will, instead, question those who do!
You see, Saudi Arabian peace with Israel is one of the most Biblical things that can happen, particularly as Russia, Iran and Turkey work day in and day out to take up positions on Israel’s northern border.
Friends, we can believe God’s Word from front to back! Because God has been faithful to fulfill prophecies of the past, we can be sure He will fulfill prophecies of the future. The sooner that agreement is made, the closer we are to seeing Ezekiel’s prophecy come true!
Given that, how should we live our lives? What are we to do as we await the coming of our Lord? It is very important that we know…and we’re going to discuss that later today! Check back just after noon, because the answer will both bless and challenge you! See you then!
