Welcome back, friends! Many have emailed or commented about Nations United by Prayer, and I know many of you are praying diligently. You are such a shining light in the windows of heaven!
I launched this Nations United by Prayer series several weeks ago at the urging of the Holy Spirit to join with Christian leaders across the country who are calling for Christians to wake up and to pray while there is still time.
Then, last week, I went a step further by committing to share 5 ways in which we honor God during this election season. To get us started, the first way in which we honor God is to register to vote. Hopefully, you have done that.
Today, as we consider Nations United by Prayer, I will be redundant in saying, “Honor God by praying.” You see, the second way to honor God is to PRAY for our nation and our leaders, as it impacts how we treat Israel! Israel and the US are linked, and whoever sits in the White House and Congress determines whether we follow God’s command to bless Israel, or if we fall to the side of curses.
And I will bless those who bless you [Israel],~Genesis 12:3
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.
Standing with Israel is important, which makes praying for our nation and our leaders important.
I was in ministry vocationally for many years. During that time, a wise man often told us that prayer was not just important to the work of the Kingdom, prayer IS the work of the Kingdom! The point was that, in whatever we thought we were doing for the Kingdom’s sake, prayer was actually the most important thing, and was, indeed, the true ministry.
Likewise, as important as it is to vote, prayer is the ministry. Prayer is what moves the heart of God. Friends, our nation is in deep, deep trouble if left to its own devices. It is no secret that there are very powerful people within government and outside of it that clearly plan to take our nation down a path of socialism. I’m not sure we know the full impact of that, but I’m afraid we will find out the hard way if we allow our country to slide into that ditch.
However, God is a merciful God, and I believe He grieves the state of a nation that was founded on such strong Christian principles. If you don’t believe that founding, you have fallen victim to revisionism…the rewriting of history. Most of us over 40 would not even recognize a history book in today’s schools. If you have kids or grandkids, ask to see their history book. (It is probably online now!)
Nevertheless, in His mercy, God made a very significant promise to Israel, which I believe we can apply in principle to our land. It is a familiar verse:
[If] My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.~2 Chronicles 7:14
Yes, read the verse in context and you will find God definitely addressing King Solomon and the Jewish people. However, do you believe God is so legalistic that He could not apply the same principle to those “called by My name?”
For crying out loud, if “Christian” is not being called by His name, what is? I believe He CAN and He WILL hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land, IF we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. It is certainly worth a try, and our land is in greater need today than ever before! Let’s put God’s Word to the test…it has never failed!
We are also to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). But what do we pray for? Here are some ideas that can be prayed every single day:
- Pray daily that God will change the hearts, or remove from office, those who are godless and disobedient. Godless leadership is contagious and we have leaders who should be removed. Proverbs 29:12 (NLT) says: If a ruler pays attention to liars, all his advisers will be wicked.
- Pray daily that Godly men and women will be elected to every level of leadership (nation, state, county, city, school board, etc). When righteousness prevails, government is restored. Psalm 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
- Pray 1 Timothy 2:1-2 daily: First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. There is the recipe for a tranquil, quiet, godly and dignified life…pray for those in leadership!
- Pray daily that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you will live by that power! Perhaps you think, “What difference can one person make in the direction of our country?” You may be the one the Lord uses to open the eyes of another, who opens the eyes of another, who ends up being a high-ranking official. You never know how God will use you, so don’t put limits on Him! Be a player in this election process by honoring God with your prayers!
Never again succumb to the devil’s lie that “you don’t know what to pray or how to pray.” You were made to pray by the Almighty God of the Universe! Simply open His Word and pray it back to Him!
Honor God by praying daily this election season.
