Last Thursday was Tisha B’Av (ninth of Av), a day of deep grief in Israel. Many calamities throughout history have occurred on that calendar date, including the decree that the generation Moses led out of Egypt would remain in the wilderness for 40 years, thousands of Jews were expelled from England in the year 1290, hundreds of thousands of Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492, and several other tragedies.
Most importantly, though, the first and second Temples were both destroyed on Tisha B’Av. The first was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in 586 BC and the second by the Romans in 70 AD. It was that Temple Jesus referred to when, in Matthew 24:1-2, He warned that not one stone will be left upon another. That remains true to this day.
Though the first two Temples were destroyed by evil men in evil regimes, there is coming one more evil than the two of them put together, who will bring about the most horrid persecution of the Jews ever to occur. That evil one is the Antichrist, he will allow the building of the third Temple so that midway through the Tribulation, he will enter that Temple and demand to be worshiped.
That Temple in essence, will be cursed from the day the Antichrist makes a covenant with the Jewish people, promising what they have awaited for almost 2,000 years…their Temple. The Antichrist’s covenant with the Jewish people will do just that, and thus will launch the 7-year tribulation.
Certain organizations (primarily Temple Institute) have already made all the items to put in the Temple, and have prepared clothing and trained priests who will serve there. This is not a Temple you want to visit, or be part of funding.
But, the story doesn’t end there! Once Jesus returns to earth (and us with Him!) He will put an end to Jacob’s trouble and will set up His Millennial Kingdom…including a fourth Temple! Jesus Himself will reign there!
4 And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the east. 5 And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house. 6 Then I heard one speaking to me from the house, while a man was standing beside me. 7 He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the sons of Israel forever.~Ezekiel 43:4-7
When Jesus reigns, there will be “perfect peace, perfect justice, perfect righteousness; a perfect King.” (Quoted from Amir Tsarfati) So yes, we mourn with the Jewish people during Tisha B’Av, but we will rejoice together as one when we all reign under Jesus Christ…that perfect King!
