Welcome back, friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We’re diving back into a mini-series on lawlessness, and we’re viewing what we see in today’s world through the lens of Scripture, particularly 2 Thessalonians 2. Take a moment to read that passage. Also, this post follows a few that precede it in a series:
- Lawlessness: Is it Already at Work in Our World Today?
- Lawlessness: Delusions about the BLM Movement
- Lawlessness: Violence Turns to Anarchy
Now we ask an important question: How do our leaders respond to what is going on today? Unfortunately, not very well in many cases.
In Seattle, the liberal left is perfectly satisfied to allow terrorists to set up an “autonomous zone” in the middle of the city. They have re-branded a police precinct that was closed down by the city, erected barricades, defaced property (often with vulgarities) and have taken over the area. Meanwhile, though they wish to be “independent,” they are like spoiled young people who leave home for the first time and expect mom and dad to foot the bill! Food and water are shipped in for them, they have use of utilities without payment, and the sanitation department comes in to pick up after them! Meanwhile, they terrorize local businesses, causing owners to keep their places of business closed down. Lawlessness!
Similar efforts, though somewhat less successful and “newsworthy,” are taking place in Portland and other American cities run by liberals. Meanwhile, the ultra-liberal Minneapolis city counsel voted unanimously on Friday to dismantle the police department, and Philadelphia’s PD apologized for using tear gas to break up a riot in which domestic terrorists set vehicles and buildings on fire and crowds illegally impeded traffic on a freeway. Historical statues are being defaced and pulled down in cities and states where leftist mayors and governors refuse to take strong action.
On the federal level, Nancy Pelosi was front and center with other far left liberals in bowing to the BLM movement. Virtually all major professional sports have either done likewise, or will use the national anthem as their time of “solidarity” to kneel rather than stand. The FBI was even called in to investigate a “noose” hanging in the garage of a NASCAR driver of color, only to discover the noose was a garage door rope that had been there since at least October.
What’s happening? Lawlessness…and attempts to erase history, re-write history and/or promote the cause of domestic terrorists. (No, I am not making a statement about any people of any color, but about lawlessness and exploitation of those BLM supposedly supports!) We are losing our nation to the “cancel culture,” and opening the door to opportunistic globalists who want to establish a different (global) way of life. (See United Allied States…Can You Say One World Order?)
So, back to 2 Thessalonians 2 we go! The mystery of lawlessness is already at work in our world! (Verse 7) But, the Apostle Paul warns that the mystery of lawlessness precedes something far more sinister:
3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.~2 Thessalonians 2:3-4
Worse than the mystery of lawlessness is the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction who will show up on the scene and demand to be worshiped! That is the Antichrist!
When will the main actor arrive? We don’t exactly know, but the stage is being set for him. We know the apostasy (“falling away” from faith) must occur. Likewise, we know his minions are working overtime, and here is a key thing to note for those of us who live in America: as great a place as our nation holds on the world stage, we are not the end all! God’s plan is not predicated on what happens in America! God’s plan revolves around Israel, and He is not yet done with His people!
According to God’s plan, the church age in which we are living will soon be over and God’s attention will be squarely on His people. Unfortunately, that will be the time of Jacob’s trouble (the tribulation). We don’t know whether the invasion by Russia, Iran, Turkey and others (Ezekiel 38-39) will be before or after the rapture, but we do know Israel will stand alone.
Right now, America is a great ally of Israel, but that will not be the case in the War of Gog and Magog, described by Ezekiel the prophet. Why won’t America be there? Perhaps lawlessness overtakes our great land and we are left powerless to help Israel. Perhaps North Korea or Iran or China successfully unleashes a nuclear attack, severely disabling America. Perhaps we implode financially. Or…perhaps the rapture strips America of all Christian influence, power and godliness when we are taken out of here! (That’s my vote!)
Regardless, the lawlessness one cannot be revealed until Christians are gone! (Right now, the Holy Spirit in us is restraining the coming of the Antichrist but will soon be removed, according to 2 Thessalonians 2:7). Whether before or after Ezekiel’s prophetic invasion of Israel from the north, most certainly before the tribulation! If what we see now is stage-setting for the tribulation, it is time for us (believers) to life up our heads because our redemption draws near! (Luke 21:28)
Oh my, study friends, you have been warriors! We’re working toward the end of our series on lawlessness, so your seat at the study table will be awaiting you the next few days! We’ll shift focus slightly tomorrow, before pulling it all together and closing it out this week. Stick with us!
