I love sitting at the study table with you as we bring our study to a close this week. I am excited about the next few days as we unravel a bit about the timing and the immanency of Jesus’ return. The King is coming!
Over the past couple days we have focused on the King’s return and on how the seven Biblical Jewish feasts help us discern the timing of His return. Now, we’ll look at a different way in which God’s timing is revealed. Here is a diagram that may already be familiar to you:
Notice that the diagram is divided into 5 sections:
- The Church Age, which ends with the rapture.
- The Tribulation, which ends with the Battle of Armageddon and Jesus’ Second Coming.
- The Millennium, which we know to be the fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant.
- The Great White Throne, where those who do not believe in Jesus the Messiah will subject themselves to eternity in hell.
- The Eternal State, either in heaven or hell.
(For full details, see Discovering God’s Plan of the End.)
What is important here is to see the progression of these stages. We currently live in the Church Age, which means the next thing on the prophetic calendar is the Rapture. We know it is coming soon because things we see moving into place in our world today don’t happen until the Tribulation or the Millennium! That gives us a sense of timing! We know what is next (Rapture)…we just don’t know the day and hour.
Another important detail this diagram clearly shows is the difference between the “two finish lines.” We discussed that idea in The King is Coming, but we see it clearly here. The Rapture will result in spiritual Israel (including Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus) being snatched from this earth. We will enjoy the marriage supper of the Lamb while all hell breaks loose on earth. The Rapture is our “finish line” on earth!
Meanwhile, Romans 11:26 teaches us that “all Israel will be saved,” but unless they believe in Jesus as Messiah, they will not join us in the Rapture. However, Israel will experience national salvation after the Second Coming of Jesus. That is their earthly “finish line.”
Friends, both finish lines are fast approaching! We’re going to examine the immanency of the King’s return as we dive in tomorrow. Join us again then as we look to God’s Word to gain a sense of “how soon!” See you then!
