It’s our finale, my friends! Let’s jump in and close it out with a bang!
This week, we have discovered that three key covenants (Abrahamic, Mosaic and New Covenants) are all necessary for our salvation, and lead us to a fourth great covenant: the Davidic Covenant. It is also known as the Millennial Kingdom and the Feast of Tabernacles.
But, let’s turn our attention to a prophecy given in Zechariah 9:9:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
He is just and endowed with salvation,
Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Because it references the King coming mounted on a donkey, we know the prophecy was foretelling how Jesus would come at His first coming. In fact, Mark 11:7-10 describes that day Jesus came riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. The people welcomed Him and shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Yet, we also know the Jewish people missed the sign and failed to recognize Jesus as Messiah! The King didn’t come in a conquering way, thus they missed Him.
So, is Zechariah’s prophecy dead? I don’t think so! He will not come on a donkey a second time, but He will indeed come in triumph, as a king, endowed with salvation!
He will not barge into their world, however! He is a gentleman, and will await their invitation. How do we know that? Because Jesus Himself said so on that fateful day He wept over Jerusalem!
Indeed, He has not forgotten His promise foretold through the prophet Zechariah. He is coming to them, but they must invite Him back! When they do, the Davidic Covenant will be fulfilled, the Millennial Kingdom will be at hand, and the Feast of Tabernacles will commence!
“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” That is the chorus the Jewish people will sing to invite Him back. But wouldn’t it be fitting if, somehow, we as believers could join in the invitation?
Well, in an odd sort of way, we will! We will join with the Spirit to shout out an invitation…not to the Lord, but to those who live apart from Him! Revelation 22:17 describes the invitation we will voice:
Dear friends, if you are a believer, your charge is to join with the Spirit in inviting others to come and receive the free gift of the Water of Life! The Feast of Tabernacles is all about that!
Interestingly, in John 7, Jesus was attending the Feast of Tabernacles when He stood up and cried out, “Hey…is anyone thirsty? Come to Me and drink freely!” (Paraphrased from John 7:37.)
We have tasted the Living Water and must be about inviting others to taste it as well! One day, the choruses will join together as the Jewish people say, “Baruch haba b’shem Adonai” (Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord), and we shout, “Come!”
That is our entrance into the Millennial Kingdom where Jesus will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords forever and ever. That is what awaits our future!
So why understand the times?
- So we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.
- So we are not blinded to the urgency of the present.
- So we are prepared to fully enjoy what God has in store for the future!
The time is now, dear friends! Jesus’ physical return to earth is soon to come, but the Rapture of believers is even sooner than that! Are you ready?
Thanks for studying with us! I hope you are blessed and better prepared for all the Lord has for us! Be about the Father’s business as we await the return of King Jesus!
BTW – there is a special Understanding the Future encore tomorrow! Check it out!
