For over two decades Benjamin Netanyahu has been warning everyone who will listen about Iran’s nuclearization. He has alerted world leaders to the imminent destruction of Israel and even the United States if the rogue regime in Iran is allowed to develop and use a nuclear arsenal.
In that regard, Netanyahu can be compared to a modern-day Noah…a man who sees the potential of impending doom and warns others of the danger. But on Thursday…40 days before Israel’s election…the comparisons seem to
multiply! As rain came down and the fountains of the great deep broke forth for 40 chaotic days in Noah’s time, so record-breaking rain poured down on Jerusalem as the announcement of the impending indictments came down. One has to wonder what the next 40 days will be like for Netanyahu.
Will he weather the storm and climb aboard an arc of salvation, or will he succumb to the forces bound and determined to bring him down? Only time will tell.
So, what are we to think of the impending potential demise of the Israeli Prime Minister? There is really no way to know, other than watching to see how things play out over the next 40 days to a year. But, allow me to share some personal thoughts.
While I believe Netanyahu is one of the most capable and effective Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers (he is both) in Israel’s history, I can’t help but think of how the Lord has brought down the proud and mighty throughout history, particularly when corruption and/or immorality have arisen. Make no mistake, Netanyahu has not been convicted of any wrongdoing at this point. However, just like the head honcho in America, enough evidence of improprieties exists to make it difficult to believe the leaders of the two greatest democracies on earth are totally innocent. I pray they are, but fear they are not.
Ultimately, what does it all mean? Who knows, but given all we see in the world today, it is well within possibility that we are about to see leadership in Israel and America take significant turns in directions that lead down dark paths. As the world spins more and more toward evil and the rise of the Antichrist, deception will run rampant. Evil will be called good, and good will be called evil. We see it happening even now!
But friends, our hope is not in political leaders! Our hope is in Jesus, the Blessed Hope! While we see difficult times coming (as described in 2 Timothy 3:1-5), we also have the promise of Jesus Himself, who said:
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”~John 14:1-3
As believers, what are we to do until that day? We are to pray! 1 Timothy 2:1-4 tells us to pray for our leaders, and tells us why! We are also to pray for Israel and the Middle East. So, let’s heed the Word of God! In fact, believers from around the world are calling for prayer and fasting. (Here’s one.) Let’s be more than “spectator Christians”…let’s get in the game!
Meet you at the foot of the cross!
