Today, January 27, 2019, is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Though Israel commemorates a day of remembrance (Yom HaShoah) May 1-2, the international community pays tribute today to the 6 million+ Jews murdered in the Holocaust.
This year, a special funeral has coincided with this season of remembrance. The remains of five unidentified Jews who perished in Auschwitz are to receive a proper burial. The World Jewish Congress explains here:
For a solemn look at the remembrance from Jerusalem, including the lighting of 6 candles to commemorate the 6 million lost lives, I highly recommend A Nation Remembers, sponsored by Christian Friends of Yad Vashem, from the Holocaust Remembrance Museum.
Today, please take a moment to remember the lost, to recognize the gravity of what occurred in the Holocaust, and to pray for the people of Israel as they grieve the loss of family members and ancestors.
May their memory be a blessing, and may the God of Israel fill the voids in each human heart.
