Signs of the last days are everywhere! The re-birth of Israel, the rise of the revised Roman Empire, the alignment of northern invaders, the rise of globalism, and all eyes on Jerusalem. Today, we’ll examine one more sign of the times: America’s exit from the world stage.
Without argument, the United States is one of the most powerful nations in world history, and probably THE most powerful in these last days. However, while some have strange ideas about America’s mention in Bible prophecy, the fact is there is no direct mention and only a stretch that Ezekiel 38:13 may reference the US as a “merchant of Tarshish.” So, why would the most powerful nation on earth not be mentioned in Bible prophecy? We don’t know for certain, but here are some thoughts:
- It is rare that the Bible mentions any nation beyond the Middle East. On rare cases where it does (such as the reference to Tarshish), mention does not stretch to the Americas. The Bible focuses on Israel and the land surrounding her.
- Currently, America is trillions in debt, and while we are enjoying a reprieve from the recession that started a decade ago, the fact is that our nation remains on a slippery slope economically. If America collapses economically, we will cease to remain a world power.
- The borders of our country have been virtually wide open for many years now. The “popular” political argument revolves around illegal immigration. However, rare mention is made of the fact that a significant number of terrorists have entered our country and are almost certainly waiting patiently for commands from top leaders to unleash terror on “main street America.”
- Throughout history, nations and kingdoms have fallen due to widespread immorality. (Think Sodom and Gomorrah.) Never in our nation’s history has the United States sunk to the moral lows that plague our society today. Sexual sin, the murder of millions of unborn babies, the breakdown and confusion of the family unit, unruliness, illegal activity and so many other things are rampant. In fact, take a moment to read 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and see if you believe it describes our society to a tee!
But, there is one more very probable reason the United States of America will not be a world power in the very last days: the rapture! True, 2 Timothy 3:1-5 describes our nation today. But don’t lose sight of the fact that America was founded on Christian principles, and is still home to more Christians than any other place on earth. If immorality doesn’t take our nation down, it will be because of the remnant of Jesus followers. But, at the last trumpet, those Jesus followers will go to meet their Lord and Savior in the air (1 Corinthians 15:50-52, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), leaving our nation in utter chaos.
We’re seeing it, my friends…a sign of the times! One day soon, the entire world will witness an event never before imagined. Those of us who love and follow our Lord will begin life in His very presence. What a day! I can’t wait…what about you?
We’ll conclude our “Signs of the Times” mini-series tomorrow, so come back for the finale! See you then. Shabbat shalom!
