It is celebrated in Israel, but little known in other parts of the world. It took place as Americans were celebrating their bicentennial. It was one of Israel’s finest moments in history.
So, what was the event? A miraculous rescue of hostages from Entebbe Uganda. Following the hijacking of an Air France flight to Entebbe, Jews were separated from the rest and negotiations won the release of most (if not all) non-Jews. In a very daring rescue, the Israel Defense Force (IDF) sent many of their most highly trained and skilled men. The rescue effort was dramatic and very successful, though the unit lost a very talented and valuable officer: Yoni Netanyahu.
Yoni was the brother of current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who looks to the life of his brother and remembers a true hero.
It is a fascinating story, told in the following 6 1/2- minute video. I hope you’ll take the time to watch it and get a glimpse of Jewish “chutzpah” when it comes to taking care of their own! (A lesson we could all learn.) Enjoy!
PS: We resume our study, Why Israel Matters, tomorrow, so I hope you’ll join us here as we consider “Make Way for the King!” Come study with us! Meanwhile, Happy Lord’s Day!
