Tel Aviv and Orlando: The Latest Scenes of Terrorism

As I’m sure you were, I was disgusted by news of two terrorist acts that took innocent human lives last week.

The Scene of Terror in Tel Aviv

On Wednesday June 8, two jihadists opened fire and killed four Jews in a Tel Aviv market.  The two were 21-year-old cousins from the Palestinian-controlled West Bank.  The cowardly terrorists disguised themselves as Hasidic Jews and opened fire on a peaceful setting where people were enjoying coffee and, in one case, a birthday celebration.  One of the terrorists was shot on the scene and the other was arrested soon after.

The Scene of Terror in Orlando

Only 3 days later, a lone gunman entered a nightclub in Orlando FL and began firing an automatic weapon, ultimately killing at least 50 and injuring over 50 others.  The shooter was the son of Afghanistan parents, and was interviewed as a potential terror suspect at least 3 times by the FBI.  After inflicting carnage, the shooter became victim to the Orlando SWAT team who shot and killed the terrorist.

Several things are of great concern:

  • Only a day or two before the Tel Aviv attack, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas’s military wing), declared the Muslim holy month of Ramadan  “a month of jihad,” making a Muslim holy month (meant for prayer and fasting in commemoration of the first revelation of the Qur’an to Muhammad) a month of terror.  Islam seems to know no “peace,” even in its most holy, prayerful month.
  • The terrorist in Orlando made a call to 911 during a pause in the attack, where he verbally pledged allegiance to ISIS.  Survivors from the nightclub are also alleging that the shooter made demands (during the attack) for America to stop bombing ISIS.
  • ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is unknown if the attack was planned or directed by ISIS.  It is thought right now that it was simply motivated by ISIS ideology.
  • ISIS is barbaric toward gay people.  (The Orlando attack was on a gay nightclub.)  Though the Bible is clear that homosexual activity is sinful, the murder of those who practice homosexuality is not condoned.  Yet, we have a moral problem in America, where the homosexual agenda has gathered such a full head of steam that it has helped to destroy the moral fabric of America.  Should homosexual venues be attacked by ISIS and other terrorist groups, will it create emotional “compassion” toward a sinful agenda and drive greater support of the gay agenda?  Woe to us in America if we continue down the path of calling evil good, and good evil; and who (for whatever reason) put darkness for light and light for darkness, and bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.  (Isaiah 5:20)
  • The Orlando shooter was well-known to the FBI.  He was known to be violent and threatening.  An ex-wife describes the terrorist as a very angry, emotional, abusive man.  The FBI had interviewed the man 3 times, yet he was able to purchase weapons just days before the shooting.  Why is a man known to have terrorist connections able to purchase assault weapons?
  • In a press conference, President Obama declared the Orlando shooting an act of terrorism.  To this point, it seems wise for the President not to make irrational statements regarding this incident.  However, historically, President Obama has refused to connect these types of incidents to ISIS or other terrorist groups, and refuses to identify the enemy as radical Islam.  Unless and until the enemy is identified, how is it possible to formulate a plan to stop the enemy?  Those who fail to understand and acknowledge the nature of evil are bound to be blindsided by it.  How long will America be blindsided?
  • In the background behind these two terrorist attacks, there are very significant efforts underway to force Israel to “negotiate” peace with the Palestinians.  The “negotiation” is really no “negotiation,” as France and other nations are proposing a peace plan that would unilaterally impose indefensible borders upon Israel.

Dear friends, our nation is in trouble.  We see it in situations like the horrendous terrorist attack in Orlando.  More are coming.  Beyond that, America is turning its back on Israel.  While forcing a terrible Iranian nuclear deal upon Israel and other Middle East nations, and pressuring Israel to acquiesce to Palestinian demands, one might wonder if we will see God’s hand of blessing and protection lifted from our great nation.

Ultimately, the Bible teaches that ALL nations will turn their back on Israel (Joel 3:2).  Are we living in the last days?  This is only one prophecy, but it certainly is a sign of the season in which we live.  No one knows the day and hour of Jesus’s return, but we are told to know and understand the season in which we live.  (Luke 12:54-56)  Believers, the season is upon us.  We must be faithful in prayer for Israel, for our country, and for the souls of those who will spend eternity in hell.  Let’s be found faithful when our Lord returns.
