Israel’s Missile Defense Organization has successfully test-fired and completed the last phase of trials for David’s Sling, capable of intercepting rockets with a range of 200km. It is intended to accompany the already-operational Iron Dome missile defense system, proven reliable in intercepting missile with a range of 70km. The Defense Organization is also working on the Arrow, a third layer of missile defense, capable of shooting down missiles outside the atmosphere.
David’s Sling is scheduled to be delivered to the Israeli Air Force in 2016 and, according to the Jerusalem Post, the first crews are being trained to operate it.
Meanwhile, with 100,000 rockets aimed at Israel, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has threatened to take revenge on Israel for the airstrike that killed a Hezbollah leader near Damascus several days ago.
Despite threats from its enemies and activity near the Syrian border that requires constant vigilance, Israel remains strong. Not coincidentally, the new missile defense system is named for King David, one of Israel’s great warriors. Just as importantly, David was a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22), and he sought the Lord. He knew that being a great warrior and even having the best weapons was not enough. He needed the favor and guidance of His Lord!
Psalms is full of David’s prayers of protection. For example:
“I love You, O Lord, my strength.”
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.
~Psalm 18:1-3But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord,
I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in Your hand;
Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.
Make Your face to shine upon Your servant;
Save me in Your lovingkindness.
~Psalm 31:14-16To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in You I trust,
Do not let me be ashamed;
Do not let my enemies exult over me.
~Psalm 25:1-2
As faithfully as the Lord granted David protection, He will continue to protect His chosen land and His chosen people. Come what may, the Lord will be victorious in the end.
In closing, be reminded of God’s faithfulness to you as well! He has provided each of us with “David’s Sling,” His covering over us. Earthly harm may come, but eternal life belongs to those of us who know Him and trust personally in Him.
Eternal life is a gift extended to all. If that gift is not yet yours, I pray you will receive the greatest gift of all this Christmas season. It is free, and it is yours. If you would like to know God personally and receive His free gift, here are two great resources:
