Are US-Israeli Relations in Crisis?

Ok, friends, we have spent several days examining the season in which we live.  Jesus said:

“When you see clouds coming in from the west, you say, ‘Storm’s coming’ – and you’re right.  And when the wind comes out of the south, you say, ‘This’ll be a hot one’ – and you’re right.  Frauds!  You know how to tell a change in the weather, so don’t tell me you can’t tell a change in the season, the God-season we’re in right now.  You don’t have to be a genius to understand these things.  Just use your common sense.”
~Luke 12:54-56, The Message

So, let’s apply our common sense by looking at a current event and seeing what Scripture has to say.  It is no big secret that the relationship between Israel and the US has declined in recent years.  However, according to a report in The Atlantic, The Crisis in US-Israel Relations is Officially Here.  I don’t necessarily agree with the editorial opinions of the author, Jeffrey Goldberg, but if any of the information in the breaking article is true, then the US-Israeli relationship is most definitely reaching a new low.

The Obama administration has apparently turned to childish and inappropriate name-calling toward Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and is said to be “red-hot” over Israel’s decision to continue building settlements on their own land.  American leaders seem to believe that it is Israel’s fault that Secretary of State John Kerry’s peace plan has failed.  Israel’s very existence is at stake in that “peace plan,” based on Israel giving up land to the Palestinians…who have failed to even acknowledge Israel as a nation.  The American administration also seems offended by the fact that Netanyahu has “written off” the Obama administration.  Why shouldn’t he?  After all, America as a nation has:

  • Pressured Israel to negotiate with the Palestinians, despite the fact that Israel would not be able to defend herself if pressed into the Kerry peace plan.
  • Condemned Israel for their military action in Gaza, despite the fact that Hamas and other terrorist groups were launching thousands of rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip.
  • Pressured Israel not to take preemptive action against Iran’s nuclear facilities…and now calls Netanyahu a coward for not doing so!

Popular opinion seems to be that Obama will spend his last two years in office making Israel pay the price for not coddling his agenda.  To date, the Palestinian push for statehood has been blocked in large part due to the US’s veto power at the UN.  Obama may change his position on that, or may help draft an anti-settlement resolution that would isolate Israel internationally.  In addition, it is suggested that Obama will throw down the gauntlet by clearly delineating Israeli borders in a two-state solution, based on 1967 lines.  Again, putting Israel in a very poor position internationally.

According to The Atlantic article:

Netanyahu, and the even more hawkish ministers around him, seem to have decided that their short-term political futures rest on a platform that can be boiled down to this formula: “The whole world is against us. Only we can protect Israel from what’s coming.”

Even secular media is recognizing what the Bible has told us for years: in the end, Israel will stand alone!  All nations will have turned against her when the Lord of Lords steps in on Israel’s defense.

“For behold, in those days and at that time,
When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
I will gather all the nations
And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
Then I will enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have scattered among the nations;
And they have divided up My land.”
~Joel 3:1-2

While the US has been Israel’s staunchest ally since her re-birth in 1948, even the greatest ally is now turning on Israel.  The Bible predicts that in the last days…and we are seeing it happen right before our very eyes.

Indeed, it does not take a genius to understand the God-season in which we live.  We must simply use our common sense!  Dear friends, the season is now…be ready for Jesus’s return!
