Israel and Hamas agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire brokered by Egypt on Saturday. However, Hamas pushed the limit, firing a barrage of rockets at Israel just minutes before the ceasefire was to begin a midnight last night. To my knowledge, the ceasefire has held, but it remains to be seen whether the full 72-hour ceasefire will be honored.
Israeli leaders indicate that they will not negotiate a permanent truce with Hamas while under fire. Thus, this ceasefire is important if, indeed, the terrorist organization is interested in a truce. That seems unlikely, however, as Hamas leaders indicate they will not agree to a truce without promises of Israel lifting the blockade.
Meanwhile, Israel has consistently attacked terrorist sites (rocket launchers, ammunition depots, command centers) in response to rocket attacks, and will continue to do so in order to protect their citizens.
