Israel Remembers and Honors a True Hero

Israeli fighters are often beyond the norm. They are warriors who gladly rush into service when their nation or their people are in harm’s way. Perhaps they are no different from honorable warriors in militaries around the world, but they do seem to have unparalleled distinction. Every IDF warrior is well-drilled on why they fight…and why they must.

Many are taken to Masada, the site of the Jews last stand against the Roman cohort in 73 AD. It was there, atop a tall mesa overlooking the Dead Sea, that Roman soldiers ultimately utilized a siege ramp to break into the fortified encampment. Once there, they found a fortress full of dead Jews who would rather give up their own lives than live it under Roman tyranny.

There, throughout history since, the mantra “Never Again” rises. After weeks of not only becoming battle-ready, but also of visiting Israel’s most significant battle sites, classes of military soldiers are taken there to swear their oath to their country. The “why” is drilled into them every bit as much as the “how.”

That sets IDF soldiers apart from the rest. They are resolute and know very well what they are fighting for, and they are committed to do what it takes to defend the homeland and the Jewish people. It is no wonder that non-active IDF soldiers from around the world flocked back to Israel following the October 7 attack to pick up their weapons and join the battle. They were living out their commitment.

Recently, Arnon Zamora, the special ops commando who gave his life saving four Israeli hostages was honored and laid to rest. You must meet this man to understand the depth of love and commitment mentioned above. He truly loved deeply and served his country and his people valiantly. Be encouraged by his story.

May his memory be a blessing, and may we all take a life lesson from a man who lived well.
