The nation of Israel continues to reel, despite the joyous return of many hostages and the pounding they have dealt to Hamas. Most residents of the kibbutzim who were attacked are still displaced, and families are grieving missing loved ones. The memories of horrific murder, rape and mutilation will likely last a lifetime.
Throughout history, Jews have been targeted simply because they are Jews. Yet, God’s Word tells us they are the apple of His eye. They are uniquely called, and He has made eternal promises to them. Here are a few:
- God’s love for them is everlasting. Jeremiah 31:3 clearly states that truth. “I will” statements peppered throughout the entire chapter echo His promise of love, and the chapter closes with His promise of the new covenant. True everlasting love!
- God is not done with Israel and no other nation or terrorist group can change that. Romans 11 is all about that, including His commitment (in verse 26) of the national salvation of the Jewish people.
- God will judge the nations according to how they treat Israel. We are familiar with the Lord’s admonition to bless Israel (Genesis 12:3), but Joel 3:2 describes a time when all the nations of the earth will be gathered in the Valley of Jehoshaphat to be judged according to how they treat Israel! It’s important to stand with Israel!
- God promises a future and a hope! Jeremiah 29 indicates God will listen when His people call upon Him, pray, seek Him and search with all their hearts. He will gather them once more to Himself!
No matter what Hamas or Hezbollah or any other evil regime is thrown at them, God will never give up His chosen ones.
