There are so many misconceptions when it comes to the root of Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip, and it is important for us to develop appropriate views. Let’s consider a couple of them.
First, Israel is not at war with the Palestinians. They are at war with Hamas. The two terms should not be interchanged. Many Palestinians are hospitable, and simply want to live at peace and care for their families. I have met Palestinian Christians who are God-honoring, love the Lord and serve Him with all their might.
The terrorist group, Hamas, runs terrorist camps to train up jihadists from a young age. They have proven to be every bit as violent and barbaric as ISIS, and they rule the Gaza Strip. Hamas was founded in 1987 and adopted a charter that specifically vows to destroy Israel and clearly states “there is no solution for the Palestinian question except through jihad.” On October 7, Hamas engaged in jihad and invited the war with Israel.
It is important not to view all Palestinians as terrorists. Many do not agree with Hamas and their evil agenda. However, it is equally important to know that Hamas was elected to rule in Gaza. Those who voted them in are getting what they voted for.
A second misconception is taking on worldwide significance, as calls for “moral equivalence” and “proportionality” in Israel’s response are beginning to resonate around the world. So, let’s put it in perspective. How many Gazan children should the IDF shoot or behead? How many innocent Gazans should be burned to death? How many should be kidnapped? NONE! The idea of moral equivalence is simply ludicrous. Instead, the IDF warns the citizens of Gaza to leave areas they intend to strike, and they provide a pathway to safety. Israel values human life. Hamas sacrifices human life as shields to hide behind.
These are important things to know as you consider what Israel must do to regain safety and civility for their citizens. Listen carefully as Dr Soref and Dr Postell from One for Israel explain the anti-Semitic fallacy of moral equivalency:
