Bible students know there are seven feasts the Lord God ordained and set forth for Israel. Those feasts, which are detailed in Leviticus 23, are shadows of Jesus, the true substance.
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
~Colossians 2:16-17
Indeed, the seven Jewish feasts and festivals reveal Jesus:
- Passover – Jesus, the perfect and spotless Passover Lamb, was sacrificed for our sin.
- Feast of Unleavened Bread – Just as matzos (unleavened bread) is pierced, striped and bruised, so Jesus Himself was pierced, striped and bruised for our transgressions.
- Feast of First Fruits – After crucifixion, Jesus rose from the dead, becoming the “first fruits,” so that we (believers) too will be resurrected into eternal life with Him!
- Pentecost – The Holy Spirit was given and the church was born.
- Feast of Trumpets – Salvation in Jesus is worth trumpeting, but the substance of this feast is the glorious Second Coming when Jesus returns to earth and Jewish eyes are open to see the Messiah!
- Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) – Jesus is our full and complete atonement and we follow His will by His grace.
- Feast of Tabernacles – Right now, Jesus makes His home in the heart and soul of believers, but one day, when He returns to earth to rule and reign, He will tabernacle among us!
Yom Kippur commences this Sunday evening, September 24, 2023. It is Israel’s most somber feast, as Jewish people around the world contemplate life and confess sin in preparation of Yom Kippur.
Here is a bit more about Yom Kippur:
What a great time to pray for the Jewish people. May eyes and hearts be open to see and to receive salvation from their Messiah.
