The 8-day festival of Hanukkah is now well underway. (It began Sunday evening.) If you are familiar with Jewish culture, you know that Jews (in general) have a fantastic sense of humor, and they are not shy about poking fun at themselves!
Hanukkah is one of the most joyous celebrations on the Hebrew calendar, as they sing and dance and eat sufganiot (jelly doughnuts) for 8 days. They are celebrating the miracle of light, when they recaptured the Temple. They had only enough oil to keep the light burning for one day, yet by God’s miracle, it lasted eight days until they were able to press and purify the oil to keep the lamps lit. Thus, tonight at sundown begins an eight-day celebration in which they will light an additional candle in the hanukkiah (9-branch menorah) each of the eight nights.
So, on the fun side, here is a funny little tune, performed by Jewish comedian, Adam Sandler! Enjoy…and Happy Hanukkah!
