Living in a Proverbs 6 Culture with a John 3:16 God

Look around. What do you see? Is our world growing more righteous, or are lawlessness and evil taking us down a path we never want to go?

2 Thessalonians 2:7 warns that, even in the first century when that letter was written, the mystery of lawlessness was already at work. In 2 Timothy 3:1-7, Paul the apostle clearly lays out what perilous times will look like in the end. Sure, we have seen these things throughout history, but rarely, if ever, to the depths of depravity we see today. Because of lawlessness, God judged the earth with a world-wide flood in Noah’s day, and one day soon, despite the scoffers, He will judge by fire. (2 Peter 3:1-7)

What leads to such wrath, and when will it take place?

God’s judgment is brought about when we wander away from His principles and commands. God’s directives to us are clear. For example:

16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

~Proverbs 6:16-19

Around the world today, we can identify people and governments and tyrants plowing through life as if the goal is to check off those seven things the Lord hates! We are seemingly being swallowed up by evil.

But are we?

We have Christ Jesus our Lord! Therefore:

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

~2 Corinthians 4:6-10

He shines in our hearts when we invite Him to do so. We call it salvation, and here two flagship verses:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ….But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

~John 3:16, Romans 5:8

We live in a Proverbs 6 culture, but aren’t you glad we have a John 3:16 God?

If you have not yet met the God of John 3:16…the one who gave His Son for a sacrifice for your sins…may this be your day of introduction! No matter who you are, what you’ve done or where you’ve been, Jesus Christ has paid the debt of sin that you owe, but cannot pay yourself. Here is your introduction:
