Canadian Pastor Jailed for Preaching the Gospel

So often we look at religious freedom as a political issue. However, our freedom comes from an authority much higher than any government. The apostle Paul, teaching about the glory of the New Covenant puts it this way:  Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (freedom). (2 Corinthians 3:17) Jesus Himself tells us that when we abide in His Word, we will know the truth and the truth will set us free. The Son makes us free! (John 8:31-36) Indeed, our freedom is found in Christ!

Thankfully, the First Amendment of the US Constitution acknowledges our God-given freedom, and is designed to it. Unfortunately, despite our Constitution, we are seeing the erosion of our First Amendment as attempts are made to silence Christians.

America is the only nation I know of with a constitutional protection of the very rights and freedoms granted by God. Thus, those in other countries have an even greater uphill battle with government authorities. However, it does not change the fact that liberty and freedom are God-given!

Recently, a Canadian pastor was put to the test, and he stood like a champion on the Word of God. He was jailed, as the Canadian government tried to rob him of his God-given freedom. Miraculously, he was released. But if he had not been released, would he still be free? Of course! No one can take our freedom in Christ! It is a good reminder, though, that we as believers in Jesus Christ have every reason to stand up to our governments and others who seek to destroy us!

Read the Canadian pastor’s story, then sign a letter of encouragement to him!
