Israel sent a whopping 90 athletes in 15 sports to Tokyo for this year’s Olympic games. For Americans, upon first glance, 90 Olympians seems minute compared to the 600+ US athletes in Tokyo. However, those 90 athletes double the previous high number who competed in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Those athletes are also more talented and much more seasoned, as Israel has upped its game in national competitions throughout the world.
The first Israeli medal of this Olympics was won by a 19-year-old IDF soldier! Check it out:
By the way, for the very first time since 1972 when 11 Israeli athletes were murdered by Palestinians terrorists at the Munich Olympics, fans from around the world commemorated those athletes with a moment of silence.
For 49 years, families of those athletes petitioned the International Olympic Committee for a moment of silence and were denied. Finally, these are the words they heard:
“We, the Olympic community, also remember all the Olympians and members of our community who have so sadly left us, in particular we remember those who lost their lives during the Olympic Games. One group still holds a strong place in all our memories and stand for all those we have lost at the games – the members of the Israeli delegation at the Olympic Games Munich 1972.”
