If you have followed recent news out of the Russian-Ukrainian area, you are probably aware of Russia’s massive move of military equipment to the Russian border with Ukraine. What is going on there?
One thing is certain: the Biden administration is beginning to sweat. Biden’s first official communication with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place last Friday, and Biden supposedly affirmed Washington’s support for “Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression.” (According to dw.com and other sources.)
Following that call, the State Department reportedly “called on Russia to refrain from escalating tensions with Ukraine.” After bashing President Trump for pandering to Russia, while pretending to be a “tough guy” himself, it will be very interesting to see what Biden and his team of soft diplomats do regarding Russia’s advance on another sovereign nation.
But, politics aside, what is Russia up to? Keep in mind that the Russian economy is in dire straights, and Russian President Putin is a power-hungry czar with ambitions to control the region in order to restore wealth to Russia through oil and gas reserves he is not yet able to get his hands on. But the closer he creeps to the oil fields in Syria, and ultimately, the oil and gas off Israel’s shores (and perhaps on the Golan Heights), the better his access to get what he’s after.
Overlay those actions and motives with what you read in Ezekiel 38 and it makes perfect sense! It appears God is using oil and gas as the “hook in the jaw” (verse 4) that will draw the prince of Rosh (a Russian leader) and his allies down from the north to invade Israel some day. They must have something to plunder (verse 12), and oil and gas are the most lucrative things available!
I hope that when you read Ezekiel 38, you don’t get hung up on what Russia and her allies do, but on what Jesus Himself will do on Israel’s behalf.
- Notice who draws the enemies into Israel (verse 4).
- Notice why He does it (verse 16).
Now, read verses 17-23. Describe what the Lord will do, and what the outcome will be!
Friends, regardless of what we see happening in our world today, we know how the story ends! Ezekiel 38 is only on chapter in the story, but if you are a Bible student, you know that Jesus returns to take us (believers in Jesus Christ) up to meet Him in the air, and to escape the coming wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10). That wrath is the tribulation!
You know furthermore, that we will spend eternity with Him, beginning at the rapture, continuing through the marriage feast of the Lamb for 7 years in heaven (while the tribulation rages on earth), through the Millennial Kingdom age and on into eternity! That is how God’s story goes! I like to call it His-story! His-story is history in advance….or what the Bible calls prophecy!
Bible prophecy is not meant to scare, but to prepare. As we see Russia and others move into Ezekiel 38 position, we are watching Bible prophecy being fulfilled, and what follows is glorious! Bible prophecy ultimately assures us of our place with Jesus forever, IF we put our trust and faith in Him.
What about you….do you know Jesus personally, or do you just know about Jesus? He wants a personal relationship with you! If you do not know Him, get to know Him today, and come spend eternity with us, in the presence of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! You will never have to worry about Russia or anyone else! God’s got this!
