Thoughts about Iran’s Attack on American Bases in Iraq and Other Happenings

Exactly what happened in Iran’s attacks on American military bases in Iraq a couple days ago? I don’t pretend to know all the details, but I have thoughts based on details I have gathered.

As you know, Iran took retaliatory action following the American attack that killed IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani and several other Iranian military officials. Seeking revenge, fifteen rockets were reportedly fired from an Iranian base on two military bases in Iraq, occupied by American soldiers. Ten were fired at the Al-Asad Airbase northwest of Baghdad, and five were fired at a base near Erbil. Four of those rockets failed to find their targets. Thankfully there was no loss of life.

Somewhat interestingly, after repeated warnings from President Trump regarding attacks on American personnel and territory, no American military response followed the rocket barrages. Wise move…and here is the basis of my assessment.

It is clear that military intelligence (perhaps even from the Israeli Mossad) detected and warned American commanders of the bases being targeted. Could it be that all personnel and as much equipment as possible were moved out before the attack? Could it be that either Iran or unauthorized insiders “leaked” their intention?

I don’t know, but consider the possible logic. Currently, the US and our allies are far superior militarily than Iran and any allies who would act on their behalf. They know they would not stand a chance in conventional war.

However, could it be that President Trump and his advisers, knowing they could keep American’s safe, simply moved troops and equipment out of harms way and allowed the Iranian regime to save face by claiming a “major hit” on American interests? (Iranian media reported dozens of American casualties.) By doing so, it gives the Iranian regime a way to “prove” to its people they are holding their own in the face of losing their terrorist mastermind, and allows the conflict to settle, rather than escalate.

I don’t know that to be the case, but I find it an interesting possibility.

Now, to a couple other events in Iran. First, just hours after launching that attack on American bases, two earthquakes struck Bushehr Iran, site of a major nuclear facility. The quakes, measuring 4.9 and 4.5 in magnitude, rumbled 30 minutes apart, and follow only two weeks after a 5.1 shocked the same area.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in Iran. In fact, a 5.9 quake rocked northwestern Iran in November and over 300 people were killed. However, the timing and placement of the most recent earthquakes is interesting. Again, we can’t be dogmatic, but it makes me wonder if the hand of God is moving against the evil of the Iranian regime.

If that’s not enough, a Ukrainian 737 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran’s airport. Immediately, fingers were pointed at Boeing for mechanical failure, which supposedly caused the plane to crash. However, Iranian officials refused to turn over the black box, and some reports have surfaced of noticeable shrapnel marks on the wings and fuselage of the aircraft. There are also hints that Iran will somehow blame the US if it becomes clear the passenger jet was shot down.

The news is swirling, and of course, the liberal left is all over the Trump administration for taking out the world’s #1 terrorist (even bigger than Saddam Husein, Osama bin Laden and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi). Evil runs rampant and politicians become even more polarized. It’s a recipe for world chaos, which the Bible tells us will come.

But let’s not lose sight of our Almighty God! This is a spiritual war, and ultimately, Israel is the centerpiece. Yet, behold! He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep! (Psalm 121:4) We can face challenging times because the Bible tells us what will happen! We’ve read the Book and we know how it ends. Bible prophecy is not scary if we know the Author and understand His faithfulness in redeeming His own. He’s got this!!!

We simply must be sure we are “His own!” Are you? If not, you can be. Check this out.

Blessings!
