I just heard news of the deaths of Qassem Soleimani, head of Iran’s Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a high-ranking commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces (an Iranian-backed militia). I searched for confirmation and find reports from The Times of Israel, the Washington Post, and others.
You can read details in those articles or online, but my thoughts turn to what this could mean. At this point, I have not heard news as to who is responsible for the airstrikes near the Baghdad airport, but one can only assume the US and Israel either conducted those strikes, or were likely involved in the planning of them.
Iran is desperate. The country is in economic turmoil, due to siphoning of funds from public, civil causes to terrorism. Of course, very significant sanctions leveled by the US and our allies play a part as well. Meanwhile, citizens are rioting in the streets of major Iranian cities, protesting the oppressive regime of the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani. Things are at a boiling point there.
Turmoil is ahead, and the US will likely not remain a silent player on the sidelines. Prayer warriors, this is your call! Pray our leaders will seek God’s wisdom, and will follow it. Pray for the safety of our troops, and peace and comfort for their families.
Finally, pray for eyes to be open and hearts willing to hear and receive truth. Never in the history of the world have we witnessed the stage being set for fulfillment of end time prophecies. It is high time for us to awaken, and live out our lives to the glory of our Lord!
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. 12 The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
~Romans 13:11-14

UPDATE: High-level Hezbollah commander from Lebanon, Nail Qassem, was also killed in the airstrike.
Many US TV news outlets have also broken news of the attack, and some are reporting it was carried out by American Apache helicopters.
